Tuesday night I took delivery of an MC22. I had seen the photo's posted on E-bay so had a rough idea what to expect. Have to say from the rear the bike looked reasonable, alas the front leaves much to be desired. Wednesday was a lost day............so this morning I started assessing the damage. Front wheel broken Forks bent Side casing broken......clutch and stator side Bracket securing headlights and gauges bent and broken Anyway, you get the picture. Popped the tank off so I can get the air box out and have a look at the carbs. Generally speaking a bit dirty but certainly "nil growth within", happy !!! so far. Currently carbs have been soaking in threebond for sometime, tomorrow will begin putting it back together. Another surprise when the air box came off..............no coils ????? wtf So I rang the previous owner, he is going to check his brothers shed.....where the bike was kept. Pulled the plugs.............all good colour. Air/fuel mixture screw on one pot missing spring One seal in carb doesn't fit........normal for a bike that has been a little neglected I guess. Tomorrows another day !!
I think you are correct, I must confess I am eager to hear the engine start, always rewarding when they do.
UPDATE.........MC22 Carbs getting a clean Has anyone seen red boots on carbs ?? How' this for a view....no coils
I'm sad to see i'm not the only one that got a bike where someone tried to use the air-box as a lever to get the carbs off. Red carb boots are new to me! I've seen blue, but those were specialized bits.
"ANOTHER UPDATE" Whilst awaiting on parts I turned my attention to the tank.............empty it first! With the removal of the fuel nearly complete, I grab the tank and hear a sound like marbles floating around inside the tank Flip the tank over and shake it and hunks of epoxy resin drop on the ground, this isn't good. Took me ages to get it all out, the test will come when I put fuel back in the tank and start noticing leaks ??? time will tell Petcock is broken also, another to add to my list. I did manage to repair the headlight thanks to devcon.........and it worked
Head light fixed next inserted back into frame. Took the rear cowling off only to find.........nothing The R/R is missing and all wiring cut. I love my life
Mate ... wats life without a challenge ..... sure beats bowls and bingo The resin cakes are baffling ..... wats the inside of the tank look like ?
Went and up visited phil today, took my entire collection of mc22 parts so he could pick and choose and get his bike up and running
A huge thanks to Chris for delivering MOUCHO...PARTS for the mc22 project. Forget Christmas in July, this was Christmas in March and boy did I get spoilt!!!!
A brief update on the MC22. Sunday my niece and her husband came to stay so progress has been a tad slow. I managed to get a few things done whilst they all went cruising the coast. Tomorrow I hope to get stuck in and with a little luck fire this bad boy up........fingers crossed. Photo's and update tomorrow.
Well it's been over a week since I last posted anything on the MC22 project ????? Had a hiatus of 5 to 6 days over Easter staying at "Casa Kiffsta". Family.....friends.....good food and plenty of refreshing beverages does it get any better. Well, yes when you also have a garage full of bikes to play with And play we did. Chris has covered what we got up to, he now has a registered ride which was the ultimate aim We also played with the RS250...........carbs got looked at and cleaned again, the most astounding thing to me was the amount of plumbing involved......think any plumber would have a field day. Back to the project bike. I took a few parts down with me as my tool inventory is minimal by any standard. The bent front wheel had great disc's, so off they came. Some new tire levers came in handy to remove the front tire.....will be used again. Prior to Easter I had removed the bent forks and buckled front wheel and installed the ones Chris had delivered, this task completed made life a little easier to move the bike around. The stator cover was replaced and a few other bits as well. The carbs were installed....coils reconnected and thought I might try and start her up. Fresh oil and some fuel and I was ready alas no cigar. Having said that it was very close.........where's a can of startyabastard when you need one??? It was so close......but feeling confident she will crank up soon, few more checks around the place. Will post a few pictures soon.
WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO WITH THE MC22?????????????????? Well, electrical issues have prevented me from starting this bike, tomorrow is another day!!!! So I have taken the igniter cover off and painted it as well as the stator cover, well pleased with my endeavour You know at times you're undoing bolts and you think......this is so easy and the very next one... Well that is exactly what happened trying to remove the 3 bolts that secure the stator to the housing. 20 minutes in and things are certainly going pear shaped.....I've become a butcher??? So far nothing has worked so out with the cordless drill.............drill this sucker out. Of course the stupid cordless has a flat battery..... Who said life wasn't meant to be easy??? OK, cordless is charged and I'm ready to drill when my faithful friend Toby decides to lay across me whilst I'm trying to extract this last bolt.....probably should have taken a photo? Drilled the bolt and got the vice grips on and......she moved . Next I tried my hand at some plastic welding...........out with my trustee soldiering iron and got Toby out of the garage...a little to hot to have him around. On the rear of the cbr where the indicators connect, one side was broken so I heated it up and got the 2 ends to semi connect ?? Didn't look great but it was holding so far.........needed some filler. I used an old zip tie and it melted away nicely.......doesn't look great but it's strong and solid and the actual indicator will hide it once attached. Well, let's see what tomorrow brings !!
MC 22 UPDATE................AWAITING PARTS The never ending story........waiting on parts So I have started doing some cosmetic work -front wheel -front disc's -front forks -exhaust pipes Tomorrow tire gets fitted............then I can get the bike upright and with some luck parts should reach me tomorrow and I might get a chance to get the cibby started.......fingers crossed Pipes had little carbon, can't say the same for the can....full of carbon.
Can you post more pictures of the header before you mount it up? Curious why it appears to be so different from mine. I have no idea the history of my bike, other than I am at least the 4th owner. The reason why I am asking for more pics of the header is because my header looks different. Notice the bit after the collector is welded on, where it looks like yours has a bung.
