Hey @kiffsta you're in Birkdale aren't you? I'm not too far away in Wynnum. If you hear cursing over the weekend you'll know the reassembly is not going well.
Unfortunately I didn't get the frame back by the end of Friday so no swearing and cursing will be heard across Brisbane this weekend. There's not much more I can do until I get the frame back so I've just been cleaning up the plastic parts. I also decided to change the fork oil. For some reason these shocks don't have a drain plug down the bottom and the only way you can remove the old oil is to invert the forks, luckily these aren't attached to the rest of the bike at the moment. I doubt it has ever been changed before. I've found that the Pirelli Sport Demons rub slightly on the front fender when it gets deflected by wind at highway speed. I also decided to figure out why my starter button occasionally didn't work. Opened it up fully and it had a couple of wasp nests in it. All the crud on the ground came out of the switch. I need to get some contact/electronics cleaner and blow it out with compressed air I think.
on my honda forks there is a recessed bolt inside where the spindle shaft goes through. has a copper washer and when i rebuild a bit of teflon tape goes on the thread.helps to wash crud out of the actuators with petrol too. also prime the forks before refitting.
I was thinking about it, I've got new seals and dust covers sitting there but I think I'll wait until I've got some spare cash to get the forks re-chromed. They're not leaking so should hold up for a bit longer.
Hey Kirk, like what you're doing to the little thumper, could you give the measures of the fork seals, and the amount of fork oil, cause mine are leaking and it would be so easy to order them without taking them out first, good luck with the building and i know you're going to have a lot of fun when you start riding it, grtz Jo
Hi Jo, I purchased my fork seals from here http://www.wemoto.com.au/bikes/honda/cbx_250_rse/84-86/ which show the measurements as 33x46x11. I couldn't find the official amount of fork oil required so measured the old oil when I drained it out of the forks. It was 110mL in both sides so that's what I replaced with. This may be slightly lower than what it needs to be but my fork seals aren't leaking and it was the exact same level in both forks.
i'm not sure if the forks for the rse are the same as for the 87 model as they have a different size front wheel and the brake rotor or disc is on the other side of the wheel, but it helps a lot to know the oil amount ! grtz from sunny belgium
I've finally got the frame, swing arm, and other assorted bits back from the powder coater and they look great! Roberto did an excellent job and takes a lot of care cleaning up all the threads so you can bolt stuff back on straight away. Coverage looks great with no thin or missed spots. Overall would recommend people pay him a visit if you need any powder coating done (or to check out the Delorean in the shop). I started to put a few things back together this afternoon and ended up with the front forks mounted and engine back in the frame. That was all I could manage before having to revert back to 'dad' duties and get the small one showered and into bed. Still have to sort out the rear shocks. I know GreyImport warned me but the eye bushes are the incorrect size on the new shocks. Hopefully JBS will sort me out and swap them for the correct size. I can always put the old ones back on temporarily. The only other thing I'm still working on is the decals. I can't find any colours that I like keeping to the original two tone that match the taxi yellow. So I've been playing around in photoshop and think I like the idea of a monochrome pattern that fades across the decal. What do you think?
It looks like it would work from the photo but the new bushes are 10mm and 12mm compared to 8mm and 14mm in the old ones.
lookin good mate yea I thought the same with the bushes love the old school sticker from the powdercoater
Isn't it refreshing to see all the parts return from the powder coater.....a blank canvas to start your project
