runs again but idols rough and hates cold starts not too bad when its warm starts quite good any ideas ?
My thoughts too. A lot of tuning issues come back to incorrect valve clearances. Valve too tight (particulary exhaust) will cause a 'half miss' until the cylinder head heats up and expands enough to allow some clearance. Too loose and the rocker or cam will be pounding on the valve stem sounding like a hammer hitting the cylinder head. It is always wise to check the clearances before stripping the engine looking for mechanical faults or before trying to tune carburettors.
how do i set valve clearences never done them in my life time wouldnt know where to start to get it going when its cold i need to wind the idol screw up or it wont start once its going rides perfect just seems to have a miss on idol but if i leave it for a day or 2 when the idol was set up i have to wind it up again for some reason
I've never seen inside a Spada, so cannot advise you. Go to the manuals section and it may tell you how to check them.
Could do. Have fixed a few engines that have been 'unable to be tuned' by checking and adjusting the valve clearances.
doesnt want to start at all today some times sounds like the cogs are hitting each other unless its the valves hitting the pistons ?
any one know what this part is called ? cant seem to find it anywhere i thought it was timing wheel but nothing comes up when i try and search it need to replace it as a couple of fins are damaged on there takes ages to get it started still once warm starts easy
This is the vtr250 parts fiche. You might find what you want there, and found out how this part is called: http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-vtr250-interceptor-vtr-1990-usa_model7665/partslist/
thanks will try there also when it comes to checking voltage from battery when running what should it be between 13.6 and 14.5 wont go no higher than that on revs with bike off it is 13.98 when bike is off is this too much ?
