Just an FYI for anyone interested, the 14/38 combination on my 2008 VTR250 equates to a true (gps tested) 100kmh at 5700rpm - assuming the tacho is correct. I don't know how much it affected the freeway hillclimbing performance, because I didn't ride it with the original ratios, but after a 640km round trip I never felt like I was holding up traffic, and it made for a relaxing trip.
