Following a FZR RR radiator clean/rebuild I need a bit of help getting cooling system free of air as following my radiator refit and coolant top-up saw the temp gauge jumped way up after only a few minutes when the fan kicked in. Figured air pocket was the issue. But as radiator is sealed and I couldn't see a bleed valve what is my next course of action? Couldn't see any valve either down at waterpump? Any advice welcome on this! Cheers 2 all. otroz
Have you taken the radiator cap off and filled the system? Or have you just put coolant in the overflow tank? The radiator cap is under the fuel tank so you will have to remove that and a few fairings to get to it. Then take the radiator cap off and fill the radiator slowly with coolant. This should eliminate all air bubbles. If not just run the bike for a few minutes with the radiator cap undone (But fill it first if you haven't already!!). Good luck.
Sounds like you're talking about a CBR there,, or is that where the Deltabox frame models have theirs? When you fill it via the radiator cap you should fill it and while its running fill it up because it will probably bubble down.
<!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s --> ...Hi again. Thanks for comments. Worked a treat. Appreciated. Great timing as todays its 44 degrees C. in Adelaide and bike is fine on this mornings run. Cheers.
please tell me its not under the fuel tank for a 2kr.. i just had it off the other day and really cant be bothered taking it off again (i had to put in like 300 mls of water into the thingo under the back seat today from when i checked the thermo stat). what is the cap next to the throttle with the metal bar across it? and so that must mean the thing in the back is the overflow? also where is the drain plug for the coolant? (lame questions i know but im new to this lol)
2KR definitely not under the tank - you found it with the bar across the top. From memory the drain plug is under the bottom of the frame, left hand side where the water actually runs through the frame. Don't quote me.
oh sweet.. really didnt want to stuff around with that again.. ok one last stupid question: is there any specific coolant needed (obviously not anti-freeze or something) but like is there any specific kind thats better or is any home brand thing as good as the top of the range?
You don't need anything specific, perhaps ringing a radiator specialist and would be able to recommend a good quality one or even sell you some. If that does not help, I just buy whatever is about midprice in the auto shops.
Needs to be compatible with all things aluminium. There should be a bleed nipple (like a brake bleeder) or a small bolt in the thermostat housing, below the thermostat for bleeding air out. Well there is on a 2KR. The 3LN should have something similar. it will be at a high point in the cooling system. Bob.
Re: How do I bleed air from sealed FZR radiator cooling syst keep the bike upright for the coolant to go down Hint try not to spill coolant as the coils, wiring and spark plug are directly below bike may have problems starting or rough idle (happened to me) some RP7 and some waiting time for it to dry out does the trick Mal
