Ok so I had a lot of difficulty getting the 4 rubber attachments between the airbox and carbs to fit snugly on the carb fittings without big gaps where air would spoil your mix and flow unfiltered into the carbs! Happily, there is a simple solution! Simply put the rubber attachments in very warm water (not so hot they melt) to soften them up, make sure the adjustment collar is very loose then quicly dry them and fit them on the carbs. You should have good luck and be aware it does not take long for these parts to become soft enough to stretch over the metal fitting. I did this, as it seemed my rubber fittings had shrunk and wouldnt fit, now they fit and the bike runs MUCH smoother which I put down to the more correct fuel to air mix ratio. Enjoy. <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="" title="Cool" /><!-- s --> PS I put a bit of WD40 on the screws of the collars at the end to prevent water residue from rusting.
A tip from one of the senior menbers on the FZR Archives site is to almost-boil them in reasonably fresh coolant; there are rubber conditioners that preserve hoses and restore dessicated boots. Hot water works this time, but you'll have to do it again the next time you have the carbs off.
Re: How To - Get that damn Airbox to fit on the Carburettors Hey so I'm in the process of putting my air box back on, I've got the individual rubber bits on the carbs but the main box I can't get it onto the rubber intake hose things. I've got it over them but not into the grooves that really hold the box down. As of now it is loose and moves up and down, so what's the best way to get the air box on now? I used the hair dryer to get the other bits on but it doesn't seem to be working on this part. Should I be heating them from around the outside or putting the dryer in the air box to heat it from the inside?
Re: How To - Get that damn Airbox to fit on the Carburettors It is easier if you put the rubber flanges on the airbox and try to slide it onto the carbs.
