Yea I use a long bristled thin paint brush (a normal paint brush ,not an artist brush) to loosen /remove the film and crud after soaking ...while running the lot under the hot water tap thoroughly (gloves help) .... and then in the sun to dry completely out.

thats a brilliant buy then, as long as there isnt rust you have a decent motor for spares with abit of cleaning.

Yeha, I got the tank open and inspected it no dents
    image.jpg
And I was pleasantly surprised to find a very tiny amount of rust :)

Carbs are apart for an overnight soak I have removed the diaphragms and floats, separated all jets and removed float bowl seals. And 2 bottles of vinegar later they are covered. Wish me luck :)

    Should I sign a disclaimer? :D

Theres a couple of posts in the 'My Fizzer" trilogy about vinegar and float bowls results , but I dont have the 3 days needed to find it.

    Update time...
    CARBS
After a soak in vinegar all jets are unblocked and all brass looks much nicer No visible seal damage (on the exposed seat seals), the housing itself which got abit oil logged is in need of something that eats oil a little better, I am going to soak them in vinegar again over night on Friday and then hit them hard on Saturday. Might even get to test them on the bike :).

    TANK
Now to the tank... I took the fuel tap off to find only one tank filter present... DAMN now I have 2 tanks to try and get in tank filters out of... Saturday should be fun....:headbang:

Went and got some Threebond ($17.50 at my nearest bursons i bought 2) Luckily the results speak for themself the results are staggering. Unfortunately it couldn't get rid of the oxidization
    2bond.jpg soaking jets.jpg cleaned carbs.jpg calcium stuff.jpg
    The jets look almost new
    Clean jets.jpg jet difference.jpg jet holder b4 and after.jpg
Now the insanely rusty sludgy butterfly took alot of work, 3bond got rid of the sludge that remained after the vinegar soak but the rust remained... I ended up soaking it with a bit of rustblast from my tank kit.
They had a test on the bike and are working quite well :dance2::thumb_ups: Winning!
    once an insanely rusty butterfly.jpg

haha we're all thinking alike then. Good stuff, cant wait to see photos of the build. Ive found a black ducktail at the wreckers here in syd, but they want too much for it atm. Gonna wait till they get desperate.
