Hi guys, been very busy lately and haven't made it on here in a while, how are we all? As the title suggests, I binned my zxr in the Adelaide hills on Sunday.. I wasn't injured and there was minimal damage to the bike but yeah, my own pride pretty shot lol. What can I say.. I'd been itching for a ride for days and with a turn in the weather I thought I'd go for a spin in the hills. I've ridden out there several times before and I felt somewhat confident, but by no means was I knee down like every other rider out there. Sunday felt a bit different, and in hind site a crash was inevitable. I found I was ridding a lot faster than usual, overconfident, and I was unsettled in a few corners. I really should have just slowed down and took it easy. Anyway, I was coming out of a slow and tight left hander onto a small straight leading into a tight right hander. I came up to the right turn and as I set up, I realised I was coming in way too fast. I didn't have enough time to abort the corner as I would have gone straight off the road into trees. I committed to the corner and tried to lean, hoping to scrape through and bam, I ran a touch wide and lost traction on the outside of the road. All in a split second. To be honest, I felt really ****. Such a rookie mistake and am kicking myself for it. Jacket now has a few battle scars and luckily I didn't hit my head. The bike now has scratches on that brand new paint and I am livid! About 20 seconds after, some nice fellas riding a s1000rr, a ducati pannigale and a gsxr1000 pulled up and made sure I was okay, commenting that the bike didn't look too bad and that I should be able to ride it home, and then off they went. I took a few minutes and jumped on and rode her home. Overall I am just so pissed that I came off. Rookie mistake, riding beyond my skills and it has cost me as I only just had the bike painted etc.
devastating! but the main thing is that your are ok. did the fairings crack, or they just scratched up?
sorry to hear that buddy, the main thing to take out of it is you got away without being injured and the lesson learnt a paintjob can always be redone
Hey Ed Im sure theres no riders out there that havnt done the same , or come close. And some days we are switched on and some days we arnt .... goes for everything I think. Ive been driving for 48 years and the other morning I jumped in my van and my clutching was **** and I was missing gears and I wasnt watching the traffic and had to shake myself to get it together. Of course on a bike it can have more dire results and I think you summed it up perfectly with this .... Sunday felt a bit different, and in hind site a crash was inevitable. I found I was ridding a lot faster than usual, overconfident, and I was unsettled in a few corners. I really should have just slowed down and took it easy. As the others have said the main thing is you are unhurt and you didnt hit a tree or tangle with a car. A bummer the new paint is scratched but yes it can be fixed and your ego will recover 10/10 for posting it up as I think its good for all to realise and be reminded what can happen , especially if we mis read the situation , get too cocky or over confident or think we are Marc Marquez for a day ..... oh wait .... doesnt he crash alot?
Hey Ed Good to hear from you, wish the news were better. So sorry to hear about your incident on your bike, alas it appears to be something that occurs to most riders at some stage. On a brighter note, your OK, mate that's all that counts. A little reality check, pride a tad hurt but walking away is the ultimate. If we are honest with ourselves, the bike can be fixed and when you think about it in that context, your good. I want to thank you for sharing this with us, sometimes it good for all of us to get a quick reminder and reality check as to how quickly things can change. Your good and that's all that counts. Take care.
friend ,a bruised ego is better than a hospital bed and paint can be repaired. we have all made mistakes and learn from them.close on 50 years ago i lost the front end of a honda 90 and years later realized i had mismatched tyre compound...hard on front and soft on back.live and learn.
I am really glad I didn't get seriously hurt, only scratches and bruises. The missus got very upset about it too haha. And yeah, once you put it into perspective, it could have been a lot worse that's for sure. I just feel down about it, I know it happens to everyone but yeah. But like the general consensus, the bike can be fixed! Cheers guys!
You live to ride another day. Has been a few accidents round my way lately, one last weekend was a fataity.
