And i blame it on that honda for antaganising me. I took off from the lights "normally" to get a break on traffic and had gone about 700 to 800 meters. when FLASH. loked at the speedo 120kmph and then the realisation. its a 70 zone.

Let me be the first to say that sucks abit. I know exactly how you feel, and waiting on the bus stop watching ever cbr and r1 ride past doesnt help either.

Start to get on your mates good side. As im finding out, you'll be needing every lift you can find.

It doesnt take long to get to 120+ aye?

    That sucks!

What did they book you for anyways (assume speeding - how much over?)? And how long do you have remaining until they pull your license?

i hope so too, but yeah i think im ******. Play a waiting game now.

Getting to 120 is like so quick i didn't even realise i wqas speeding yet. im going to be dead if i get a real bike.

Ive allready buttered up all my mates and the people at work so i should be able to catch a lift where ever i need to. but im gunna miss riding.

I know its not a very responsible post... but im giving you this information in the hope you may be able to save your license.

You know you got flashed... then chances are its recorded you being in that place, at that time, and a speed of approximately 120km/h in a 70 zone.

Ok, so thats 50km/h over... lets for LUCK's sake say your were actually only at 115km/h real. Now take off the 3km/h legislative measure for error and that brings us down to 42km/h. Now here's the low down on how hard your gonna be beaten.

Over limit ------- FINE - Demerits ----License Suspension
    25kph - 34kph $271 4 points One month
    35kph - 44kph $368 6 points Six months
    45kph or more $440 8 points 12 months

Now you know how screwed your are in the worst case scenario... here's your potential saviour. If/when you receive the ticket... and have assessed the damage, received an ear bashing from everyone for being a 'hoon' and got together enough money to pay the fine... DON'T PAY IT YET.
Go hike your ass into the Civil Compliance Centre in the city and present your infringement notice and ask to see the photograph captured.

Check that it's definitely YOU in the photo.
Now have a close look to see if there are ANY other moving vehicles in the photograph with you... this could be your saviour. The trick is that if there is more than 1 vehicle in the photograph then they can't actually book you cos they can't prove which vehicle it was that was recorded.

If your one very very lucky SOB then you may be walking out of there with a license; if not... pucker up... hand in that license... and take it like a man.

Unfortunately you learnt the hard way... but 120 in a 70 zone really is excessive, dangerous, and reckless. In the twisties... i wouldn't have a problem; but on the street its just uncalled for. There are more things around you that ruin your ride.. and the difference between 120km/h and 70km/h could be the difference between a darky and an ambulance effort.

I agree with Koma, although 120 in twisties, in a way could be a greater hazard. The risk to your own life is great, however a head on with another motorcyclist is also a possibility if you come off. Endangering both lives.

Also..just a query...how many pedestrians have actually died from being hit by a motorcycle? I think id honestly prefer to be the pedestrian. Think about it...if you were the rider...you would be most certain to come off...and the dangers of hitting something solid..would be instant death at top speeds. Where as with the pedestrian...chances are they might only get clipped. Might only break an arm or something.

Winding you up again? Who? Me? Surely you jest?

I was playing around a while back and wound first up to 10.5K rpm. 62 mph = 99.77kph so I'd just be getting on into second at that time.

I'm sorry guy's, I see 160 kph almost daily and that's just getting on the freeway. I can tell you this. Things get real exciting at 225 kph. I've only done that (225kph) twice on my bike. At that speed it is a "Go To Jail" thing.

Bugga Matey, that’s bad bad, that’s worse then me, man I so hope the speed camera didn’t catch me or that I was just under, driving the company car on the way to the airport to pick me boss up and I noticed the white van a nickel to late, fingers crossed I’m just under the flash limit... scary ****...

Umm with speed camera's right, like the poor bud that was caught doing 120, when does the camera actually take the photo of you?.

As soon as your 3 k's over the limit, or when your at your top speed, when does it actually decide now is when I go flash...

    Anyone got any idea

The flash will go off as soon as your in the focusing range of the camera. Pretty much, if you pass the focal point above the acceptable speed range set by the police (usually a couple of k's above the speed limit) then it will get you.

Keep in mind, alot of the road side speed camera's ive seen around Melbourne recently don't use a flash any more. <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> They use the completely internal setup with the camera mounted on the dash board.

I've never driven/ridden past one of the internal setups at night, but as far as im aware it only uses IR light to illuminate the numberplate. Having said that, to illuminate a numberplate with IR at any decent distance would require a serious setup of IR LED's. Perhaps thats why i've never seen one at night. ;)

Other than that on most street corners / intersections, it's still the good ole fashioned double flash camera's.
