    i've got weird problems with the left indicator. when ever i flick the indicator switch to the left, the left rear lights stay up, the left front nothing comes up and under the speedo where theres all the lights (eg indicators, oil, neutral) usually it flashes, but now it just stays up, until i turn it off.

    how do i fix this? anyone had a similar problem. help <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: --> <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->

    I had my blinkers stay on instead of blinking, took it to the mechanic, it turned out to be the blinker relay i think its called. its near the rear end just under the seat with the rear side fairings off u can see it, its silver circle about 5cm in diameter.. maybe that might be blowned.. any1 can confirm this could be the issue as im not sure.. i remember it cost me like $80 to fix.

    wat bout the right side?
    if both r the same then the blinker relay...dunno cost etc but shouldnt cost too much from a wreckers..

    if its just the one side...then check bulbs..wiring etc.. also if u put in the wrong type of bulb or indicator unit altogether, then this mite also happen. solution? get the same bulb as the rhs or the rite indicator with the same connections, power rating as the other side.

    Flasher Relay

    Its called the flasher relay unit. A small silver unit near the rear of the bike on the right hand side of the frame. A new flasher relay can be found at super cheap auto and costs $5. Just take the old one off and fit the new one. If this doesn't work, you may have faulty wiring some where. Dean whoever charged you $80 to fix it ripped you off.

    Cheers

    does the flasher relay unit look like a little silver cylinder sorta shape??

    i tried searching for it and the only thing i came across was this small circular thing. it's bolted on with screws and nuts and its right next to the battery, so i presume this is it.

    can anyone confirm this for me.

    flasher units come in all different shapes and sizes, but most of them cost around $5-$10. the best to get r the 2 pin electronic flasher units, instead of the flasher unit relying on the resistance of 2 globes to make it flash, the electronic one will still flash if one globe is blown. to find the flash unit.. take off the fearings, turn on the ignition and turn on the indicator.. u'll hear it click.. that'll be it. but most of the times that indicators stay on is when one of the globes is blown or has been replaced with a lower wattage (should be 21watt for indicators) but it would not have worked the whole time instead of stopping for no reason.... hope some of that helps.

    Check both of the indicator bulbs on the left side. Generally speaking if one of the filiments is burned out, that paticular side will not function properly. I suspect the running side (the one that stays on all the time) of the front indicator.

    On the 2KR, the blinker can is under the right side fairing. Adjacent to the battery, outside the frame, are 3 black relay looking thingy's. The blinker is the one nearest the rear. It has writing on it indicating lamps; eg: 2 x 21 W + 5W(4).

    Opening it up, the original (I imagine mine is original) has a relay coil, some contacts, a resistor, and an electrolytic capacitor. The plastic cover comes off quite easy with a small screwdriver and a little prying.

    Back to the capacitor. It's the blue cylindrical thing, about 10mm diameter x 25 mm long, with 2 leads coming out of one end. These things often fail, in all sorts of electronic equipment. The electrolyte (it's an electrolytic capacitor) dries out with age & heat, and they don't work too well any more. I replaced mine with a 470 microfarad (uF) 16 volt unit. Physically about half the original size, although now it blinks a bit fast. I think the correct value would be 1000 uF.

    I also had to adjust the spring tension on the contacts to get it working again. The 2 little silver pointy bits sticking out the end can be bent with a pair of pliers, very gently, to get it just right.

    <edit>
    If you do replace the capacitor, be aware that's it's polarised. Make a note of which side is marked negative before removing the old one.
    </edit>

    Hope this helps somebody.

    corrosion

    hey, before you change the flasher relay i would recommend cleaning any corrosion of the bulb contacts if you havent done so already i know it sounds a bit basic, but i had the exact same problem on my bike a few months back.

    As already stated. Don't go overboard and replace everything yet.

    Check:
    1. Bulbs are functioning (switch them to the right side and see what happens)
    2. Contacts are good
    3. Both wires to each bulb are connected at each connection point
    4. Relay

    1.
    If the right side of your bike is working, use those 2 bulbs in your left side to test. If they arent working then it's probably something else. Put your left bulbs in your right side just to be sure they work. If they do then you can immediately take the bulbs out of the equasion.

    2.
    Check the contacts - At the bulb connection point

    3.
    Check the wires (2 for each indicator) that join to the indicator to make sure they are connected. Check them at each end to make sure they are joined. twist them around, take them out, use a bit of sandpaper to make sure the contacts work.

    4.
    Check relay ( doubt its this)

    I posted what I did for the benefit of all. Maybe the salient points of all blinker problems should be put in one post & moved to the "howto" section.

    I remember having indicator issues and as Raaqi suggested, a bit of sandpaper to clean all the contacts fixed it.

    Just moved this over to the other common problems.
