We have all had them, lets hear them... here is my latest one : I just had a call from some guy on the sub continent telling me he was from Telstra and that I have a computer virus and I am causing problems on the internet, he asked if I was in front of the computer and I told him no, I was watching a movie. He asked what I was watching so I told him it was Top Gun. He told me that unless he cleaned my computer that our connection would be turned off within 2 hours and that I would be suspended from any internet access for 6 months. I told him I was happy to work with him, but not until the movie was finished , he asked again what movie it was and I told him it was Top Gun, I proceeded to recite Top Gun quotes for the next 20 mins , each time telling him the movie was almost finished. He finally hung up on me after I yelled "Goose is Dead ....and pretended to burst into tears. I think I had him on the phone for 30 mins all up, hopefully I have stopped him from ringing others with his dodgy scam.
Ive heard of that scam before ..... usually works on older people who arnt computer/internet savvy I usually tell charitys or whoever that Im in the middle of sending a donation to the local sewerage treatment works and can I have their number and Ill call back when Im finished .....
When they ring and ask for me by name I say, "hang on and I will get him for you". I put the phone down and let them wait. They usually hang up after a few minutes.
I love playing with these people. Had one on the phone for like 20 minutes while I pretended i was dumb and didn't know how to turn on the PC etc. It got to the stage where they wanted me to type an address into the browser, so he read it to me then asked me to repeat it back. I said is that "http://www.f*ckyou.com"? He then got a bit upset and said I was wasting his time and I told him he deserved it for his illegal activities and I very much enjoyed wasting his time haha. I now unplug the home phone (never used it) so haven't had a problem since!!
.....that scams been around a long time always wonder how anybody could be sucked in and what would happen with that scam but a friends missus did ,normally a very savie women (64) got 3/4 way through their scam before the mate ripped the cord out of the wall because she wouldn't turn the computer off (but its Telstra) luckily she doesn't do any internet banking etc and only uses a debit card for any purchases but it was long enough for them to plant a virus .got email saying for $500 they would take the virus off ,local shop had the computor for a week and said never had anything as difficult before ,luckily took it on as a challenge so didn't charge her...BE CAREFUL even when playing with them
I like this one.... Act like you're a detective and the scammer has called a murder scene with police onsite investigating. The person the scammer asks for has been murdered and proceed to start questioning them as to why they called this number and exactly who they are......normally gets rid of them pretty quickly!
Last time I had one of these I got them into an argument about the credit on my account that they hadn't refunded and that if they sent me the money first we could talk about his issue...... And my landline now goes straight to answering machine.
