KTM has gone ahead and answered their critics with an interesting move. KTM has just showcased the 250cc versions of Duke and RC, to join the lineup of its comprehensive compact sportbikes. The launch took place at the famous Tokyo Motorcycle Show show, an event that happens in Japan every year.

Rather than adding 50 cc to the existing 200 cc engines, KTM has downsized its 373.2 cc single-cylinder motor which does duty in the Duke 390 and RC390. The motor puts out a healthy 31 PS at 9,000 RPM and 24 Nm of torque at 7,250 for peppy response throughout the rev range. All theses changes are carried by downsizing the 390 models’ 373.2 cc engine.

Engine has been revised and comes from downsizing of the 390cc mill.

As a result, we expect taller gearing, better or same efficiency and top-level performance. KTM is famous for making insane power to weight ratio machines and it has done so right this time too. The Duke weighs 139 kg and RC 250 weighs 147 kg, which is 3-4 kg heavier than their 200cc predecessors when you compare their dry weights. The engine weighs 37.2 kg and is the lightest in its class. The motor is a 4-valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled unit with Nikasil coating on the cylinders
