I'd say there would have to be one, what use is an instrument if you can't read it at night?? (if you ride at night anyway) Mine has never worked either.
I checked mine out last night on my ride down to Netrider Coffee night (and the Rally Victoria launch at Fed Square), and it most definitely has a light in there. It's not as bright as the tacho & speedo lights, but it's in there and mine works. It's not THAT complicated to remove the windscreen, remove the instrument cluster and replace the bulb.
<!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s --> Yep, whilst we're usually all a sedate crowd around here... i'm always on close hand should a scuffle break out.
The other night I made a fatal mistake: I let my house mate take the front fairing off... When he left I went to put it back on again and realised i didn't have a bloody clue which nut went where, and what the different spacers were for. It tooke me over three hours to get it back on, which included putting it on and removing it about five times >< If you're going to put it back on for the first time make sure it's YOU that takes it off, lol.
