I'm a (very) long time rider and have had a wide variety of bikes over the years. Current main machine is a 1952 Norton ES2 500cc single but I fancy something lighter to keep it company. I've always liked the look of the RS250 so am seeking out a project to keep me busy!
. Found this listing for you , i don't think it will fit into a carry-on hand luggage . https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/salamander-bay/motorcycles/honda-cb250rs/1288993060
Yes, might be a bit far for me! Currently considering this one: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/144466625018 Or maybe this: https://www.gumtree.com/p/honda-motorbikes/honda-cb250-rs-/1426750944 although need more info...... I am looking for a project rather than ready to ride.
Yes, except the mirrors. The top end was a bit rattly but have adjusted the tappets and it's now quiet. The decompressor however isn't working properly as it looks as though the pin that locates it is missing. Wiring is in a state, gearchange linkage floppy, etc etc but basically seems sound.
Just been out for the little Honda's maiden 20 mile run. First impressions: runs well, nice and stable through the bends, somewhat gutless compared to the Norton but more comfortable! Although in theory they have similar power outputs around 25 bhp the Honda needs lots more revs - however it doesn't snatch at low speed as badly as I'd thought it might. The front brake is very wooden in action and further investigation shows that the master cylinder currently fitted is in fact 5/8" rather than the 14mm it should have so not surprising - I have a 12.5mm one arriving tomorrow so we'll see how that feels. The rear suspension is on the very hard side even with the units fully turned down so I may investigate something a bit softer from NJB. I've sorted out the decompressor (which was missing the locating pin), put a round headlight on it as I disliked the TV screen type, fitted new rear brake linings, tidied up the rat's nest wiring, fitted new rose joints on the gearchange etc etc etc... All in all very pleased and its light weight and easy handling will make it ideal for times when I feel the Norton is too much for an old man!
Welcome from another new member. I had one when I was 16, but it had an exhaust both sides and I think a square headlight? it was a terrific bike and a much needed upgrade from the RD50 that I learnt on. Handled really well (was constantly grinding away mufflers when cornering) and reached a top speed of 160km/h if you were patient enough in the right conditions. Was only about 70kg back then so that would've helped with both I suspect. Btw I am very envious of the ES2 as I love Nortons and nearly bought one years ago. still kicking myself for being stubborn on price. Would love to see a pic of yours.
