    Hi there
    I have a 1989 Fzr 250R Genesis(2kr I think) it has a 50 000km's on it.

I was riding on morning everything was fine then I opened her up, and it started misfiring. The bike starts and idles okay and you can ride at 1/4 throttle, but as soon as you open the throttle is starts to give trouble, the rev's will still climb at full throttle, but missfiries all the way up. Once you tap off to 1/4 throttle it's okay again.

I have with the help of this site down the following.

    1)Cleaned carbs twice
    2)Flushed the petrol tank
    3)Checked the fuel lines
    4)Repaired my Intake Rubbers
5)Checked and corrected my Valve Clearances
    6)Cheched spark

I have been told that it might be my Needles or emulsion tubes that are worn anf the bike running rich underload.

Would appreciate any help with my problem as I am starting to get irrrated.

    Many Thanks
    Sean

Did it start doing this one day but was perfect the day before???

Could be a blocked air filter - Try taking the filter out and giving it a short ride..

Could be a crook plug or plug lead also.

Have you drained the float bowls in the carbs?, could be water in there.

There are other things that can cause problems. Try and figure out which cylinder is the problem.

1)Before this happen, when I would be riding at a steady speed at mid
rev range and I would open her to speed up she would give a short misfire(bbbrrrr sound) and lack of power, but i would clear up right away.

2)Have run without the air filter no diffirent

3)have checked for spark, all fine with new plugs

4)Forgot to meantion that a few days before this happen I ran out of petrol close to home, pushed to petrol station, put in some petrol to get home this happen on a friday. Used to bike again on tuesday to work
and these is when it started. I was told, by a mechanic that it could be water so I drained my carbs and tank and left everthing to dry out, it did seem a little better, but not fixed

Try a bit of metho in the petrol (about 1/2 cup metho in a full tank) as it will mix with petrol and water and allow it to be burnt up if there is any water still blocking the carb jets. Other wise it might need the main jets removed and cleaned.

I have heard that ethanol blend petrol (E10) is ok too. I have not tried it in my bike, but my son uses it in his SV1000 and thinks it is good.

Thanx's Dave will give the metho a try, but what do you think about the
posibility of the emulsion tubes being worn out as I was thinking of lowering my needles by one notch.

At 50,000k it might be a good idea, as they would be worn to some degree. It won't hurt to try.

Hi there I have got my bike running agian, I bought a set of good used carbs. Put them on the bike and is goes much better no more miss firing.
I have a small problem, i think that the bike is running to rich.

If you leave is idliing the rev climb a little and then drop again. When I rev it from idling is first give a short splutter and them revs fine.

When I am riding below 10000 rev the bike is fine but if I what the bike to rev higher than 10000 i have to open the throttle completely, at which point it will first lose abit of power and then rocket off into the powerband, at which point I must then tap off, but once above 11000 the bike goes great.

Thats good news Sean. At least you can point the finger at the carbs as being the problem.
