Motorcyclist fined $146 for lifting his leg off footrest
QUEENSLAND’S police commissioner has admitted he also stretches his leg while riding a motorbike.
Commissioner Ian Stewart, a regular user of social media Twitter, replied to several complaints after it was revealed a man had been fined $146 for stretching his leg while riding a motorbike to work.
Jake Sloman was riding along the Logan Motorway on Monday when he stretched his leg.
Police pulled him over and fined him $146. The offence? "Fail to keep both feet on footrest".
The fine has caused outrage on Twitter and on Sloman's Facebook page, with people saying taking this particular road rule to the letter would mean almost every motorcycle rider would be liable to be fined.
Mr Stewart, a regular user of social media Twitter, replied to several complaints about Mr Loman's fine.
When asked if riders were not allowed to stretch their legs on the highway, Commissioner Stewart replied “of course you are”.

    god help us all....

Next they'll start trying to get us for riding in singlet's and thongs (of the foot variety..)

..... wait that would actually be sensible.

That's called malicious prosecution on the statutes and you can go the coppers for it if you're game.

BTW how would that be interpreted if you are stopped at lights or in traffic, and start from a complete stop....how long before you have to have both feet up, if you're anticipating having to stop again.

Not all police are kooks, but the ones that are do a great job of being kooks - they should stop wasting peoples time and do something useful

It's only going to get worse I fear as they now have to fill out report cards to justify the job, thought the GESTAPO had ceased in 1945, seems they are making a comeback.

You know I dont think much has changed with the police vs motorcyclist (or car for that matter)

Theres probably more pedantic rules/laws about (as above) but back in my late teen /twentys days we were harrassed on a regular basis on bikes (and in cars)

We probably looked like something out of The Wild One so for the day I guess looked a little menancing to the general public.
There was no fancy bike gear around then so it was black leather , levi jeans and more black ..... and just to be different , black helmets.
We rode old Triumphs , Ducati GTs and wateva ..... then a couple of the guys had the first Honda 4 K1s

We would be pulled over for nothing in particular and they would always go over the bikes and all the riders would stand in a circle having licence checks etc etc while the pillions would stand a distance away chatting about the time of day
The trick was to stay permanetly on L plates as you couldnt 'lose' your Ls
The other ploy was to always have a good sort as a pillion ...... the coppers would never bother them so the bottles of tequila were hidden in their handbags and the bag of hooch in their underwear ..... never failed !
Rinse and repeat ...... it was just expected every time u were out on the road.

    End of rambling rant.

We used to have a very over energetic copper in town here when I first began riding on the road. To be pulled up for a 'licence check' was just part of the game. Usually involved a check of the bike, rego check, smell of your breath, etc, and a stern warning "don't let me see you doing anything stupid on a bike". So we just went out of town to be stupid on bikes. Fun days. :D
That same copper is now retired and drives around in a truck pressure cleaning driveways.

my mother (who is 53) just got back from a bike trip from S.A she was pillion and her partner rode.. he was pulled over for 110 in a 60 zone... whats wrong with this you say??? the "60" zone was a road works sign that had been forgotten on the side of the road... no road works in sight on a 110 km/h road.. but as he passed the lone 60 km/h sign.. cop nabbed him.. $800 fine but cause he interstate no points (as of yet).he will be fighting it but its his word against the cops. I also heard that a guy in Melbourne was fined for having a go pro on his helmet.. because it was an illegal modification to his helmet and was no longer to the aussie standard...

    cheers

I've been done for all sorts of things. Let off too; quite often when I've least expected it. The laws these days are crap though. It's way to easy to lose your license and for a young bloke just starting out or a tradie with a mortgage and family, or anyone dependent on a license for their well being, it's a pretty heavy price to pay for what is just a civil issue. If they really have to crack down I'd rather see more focus on fines or perhaps compulsory attendance of defensive driving courses or community service or something. All that said, I'm all for civil liberties. As far as I am concerned it should be up to the individual what they wear, what they smoke, whether they wear a helmet or not etc etc. Within reason of course. It's the same in the oil industry now. It used to be fun. You wouldn't believe what we used to get up to 10 years ago. Now you need a JSA just to wipe your arse.
