So, I'm riding down the road, minding my own business, when I feel something hit my left foot. I immediatly slow and pull over only to find the left side fairing broken off from all bolting points except one.
I think this is a result of not checking the fairings thoroughly when I dropped it that time long ago.

If it had totally broken free, I'd hate to think how bad the bike would be now not too mention how sore i'd be. (if it went under my rear wheel that is)

Another stupid little incident, I was warming up my bike one morning, went inside to get breaky real quick, come back out and the temp gauge is reading above the red zone I shut it off then turn it on (not start it up) to let the radiator fan help cool it down... I looked around to check no oil/coolant was leaking anywhere, there wasn't any leakage which was good! But while looking I saw I had melted my left fairing a bit (where the exaust pipes run)

So, now I need some fairings, I was thinking maybe doing the R2 conversion? What are your thoughts on this peeps??

Eeek, melted fairings! That's not very good; sure they weren't cheapy plastic aftermarkets already?

R2 (or the R1/4 as i prefer to call it) conversion... go for it if time & money permit!

Well, I'm not 100% sure if they are cheap plastic aftermarket fairings or not. Seeing as though I haven't seen the difference
But, what are the real fairings? fibreglass? or are they a better quality plastic? If the latter then I don't think I'd be able to tell... hmm..

I'll be investigating the costs for the R1/4 (does make a bit more sense than R2 ) conversion soon!

The cheaper plastic fairings (AFAIK) are made from a similar plastic to ice cream containers; very soft & rather flexible - but almost impossible to paint properly / well.

The original fairings weren't fibreglass but a stiffer harder plastic. I highly doubt they'd melt from proximity to the exhaust system but i guess anything is possible.

Actually, as your in Melbourne... if your interested in getting some body work done TBone might be interested. He was going to be taking moulds of fairings but has pushed the plans back a bit. Throw a PM or email his way...
