Hi all, My mates FZR is having overheating issues. So i pulled the rad, flushed it, its not clogged. Then i took the thermostat out and put it in a cup of boiling water for a few minutes - it doesn't open. Looks like i need a new thermostat. Where can i buy one? Last time i went to a yamaha dealer and asked for FZR250 parts they laughed at me. I don't think they like grey imports eating up their market. Will any thermostat that fits work? I'm sure someone here has had the same problem, so i'd be keen to know what they did to cheaply fix it. Cheers
you should still be able to get parts for it. i have got lots of parts from my local dealer. maybe find another shop or talk to someone who is serious about running a buissness. You can probably get a second'y for really cheap. If you do get a new one test it first cuz 1 in 4 or 1 in 10 don'tt work from new.
I got a quote from yamaha for $80 for one. Then i took the old thermostat to supercheap and bought one the same size for a charade for $18 and fitted it this afternoon. Pretty happy about that. For future reference, it was a Tridon TT239-180. Just needed a little work to make it fit, no big deal.
Repco, bursons or supercheap should be able provide a similar unit at a reasonable cost... as you found out...
