Hey guys, seen a few of you folks ride the GSX250F... Three queries I have... firstly what fuel do you guys use? I discussed it with a friend and though he hadn't ridden the across, he recommended 95 octane for any Japanese 4 cylinders, because apparently the Japanese fuel standard is higher octane or something... Not knowing anything about japanese fuel standards i firstly wanted to get some clarification on that one... After running it down into the reserve (basically as long as I could stand it before pulling into a servo for fear of running dry a long way from fuel), I put some 95 into it, honestly though I've been riding the bike 2 days I don't know it well enough to feel the difference yet, though she does get hotter on idle (though today was hotter than yesterday when I bought it and I spent more time sitting in traffic thanks to an unexpected set of roadworks... hard to say). So what do you guys fil her up with? Secondly: She seems to rev a little at idle, and perhaps a little when underway too... not sure. But I have noticed the tacho sometimes creeps up at intersections and the like- usually caps off at 3,000 rpm or such, instead of her usual 1,600 idle speed... This seems to have no correlation to engine temperature or octane fuel... carby needles going perhaps I've seen mention that the across can have such issues... Thirdly: She seems to burn a little more fuel than I'd expect her too, I get about 13 km to the litre (based on 3 fills so far... yes I've been having a lot of fun on this bike, I've done 350 km in two days... admittedly half of that was riding her home after I bought her)... comments? Much thanks in advance
Hey Artemis, I always ran 95 ron in mine, your idle should be set around 1600 rpm, if its* racing.. ie increasing then it might pay to get them balanced. As for fuel consumption, could it be your loving riding her just a bit too much Chris How about a few pics?
Nice C: ! Its got an aftermarket exhaust and everything. 13km per liter sounds about right, probably a little on the poor side, i think my red light comes on at around 140-150 and i havent pushed it past 180 yet except on one occasion. And given that id say yeah your carbs need a going over. Creeping up revs is either an air leak, or more likely a carb balance issue. its easy to do it yourself with two bottles. Have a look on youtube for DIY manometer That alone would probably account for the poor economy as well as running the aftermarket slip on.
Didn't know that pipe was aftermarket... Hmm... well it's all dinged up now (possums should try committing suicide under cars, it's more effective... and costs me nothing when I go all touchy feelly and fall off my bike instead of hitting them) but I'll have a go at rebalancing the carbies myself... if it's not too hard then might as well have a crack at it
Hmmm second stage warning light doesn't work... oh dear I wonder if it's just the globe...? (hopeful face)
Hey artemis, There are 2 senders on the bottom of the tank, might pay to check the wiring is properly connected Cheers Chris
Ok folks with christmas coming up, I'm looking at replacing that exhaust (it has a sizeable ding in it since a possum related incident and since then I have noticed a drop in fuel efficiency and engine note... though the engine still seems to run fine. Methinks turbulent exhaust) So I'm looking for something not too expensive, potentially carbon fibre finish (preeeeety), any suggestions? Where should I look for one? Thanks folks.
I had a Pipemasters one on my old bike, it gave the bike an awesome note, economy was probably worse as I revved it alot to hear the growl :icon_rr: , but you have rev an Across anyway. I belived there to be a slight power increase as the biek breathed heaps better, the standard exhaust is very restrictive. thanks Chris
Also: Has anyone used Dynobike in Melbourne for bike tuning/servicing? Any comments? Prices reasonable?
Also looking for some lower fairing screws if anyone has any...? I'm missing some :S Didn't come with the bike :S
I got my replacements from a fastener joint eg GB Fasteners. Costs SFA. Do need an example to make it easy for them, though.
