Now got the whole thing dissembled, I attacked the outsides of the carbs with a wire brush to get rid of all the corrosion, now looking a lot cleaner.
In New Zealand we don't seem to have any of the cleaner you are talking about, nor any of the other brands either....will a regular parts cleaner work? One of the guys in a shop said that either petrol of kerosene do the trick?

Petrol or kerosine won't do anywhere near as good a job as proper carb cleaner. It's available all over the world i can assure you!

Ive got a proper carb cleaner but its a aerosol type, I've been around all the auto parts stores (supercheap, repco, and a local one) and none of them had a dip type. There is one more in town that i haven't tried so ill give that one a go.

Went to the last auto parts store in town, didn't have any...but can get some ....however it will take 4-5 weeks to get here , they have to put some on the next shipment out from America. The guy behind the counter hadn't even heard of the stuff.
So ill just have to make do with what I've got until it gets here....
Anyway I'm almost on to reassembly and I get my new motor this weekend.

You could try walking into the local bike/car workshop and asking one of the mechanics where they get theirs from. That approach has helped me out a couple of times.

Got the carbs back together (tho they are going to need some balancing).
Received the new engine today and it's now in the shop. After the quick look that i had at it, I don't think its scuffed up at all, which is a bonus. Also im now fairly sure that its has had all the new parts that it claims to have, as in a jar that came with it was a piston, and the cam cover(?) was not screwed back on tight. So now it just fingers crossed that the insides are not full of rust.
So hopefully by the end of next week ill be riding again

Also a little but i have brought pm lubricants and the fuel system conditioner to run my bike on in hope that it will prevent any mechanical failure.....ever. What do the guys that use it think of it?

Typically in unknown engines, I first run some detergent addatives in the fuel to get any varnish that I missed in the carb cleaning. I usually run two tank fulls of the stuff but dont overly stress the motor. After that is done I run at least one tank of Yamaha Ring free addative. It removes the carbon deposits on the valves and in the cumbustion chamber.

The engine has run a bearing, has a damaged crank....pretty much the same problems as mine except all round worse.

I guess you have one or two choices. Send back the POS that the guy claimed to be a good motor. Or rebuild both at the same time and have yourself a spare. Welcome to the joys of buying used. When mine was delivered, the forks were so pitted that it was easier for me just to buy another set....

......I just dont have enough money for a rebuild, guess im just going to have to put it in storage until I do.....Going to have to stick with the scooter for a while longer......at least its two wheels.
I have my engine in the shop at the moment to have a look at......it's a long shot but maybe it's not a bad as it sounds.

I am poring the web for information on why a tzr motor won't fit at the moment.

I have seen a site that fitted a rd350 engine to a 2kr frame.

Would consider a Zeal engine if someone reckons it can be done.

The ADR involved will relegate the bike to trackdays only of course.

As my brother said, even if you get it going well, it's still a 250 with 50 hp or so. (wow man! )

I have a new engine it's only done 32500ks as opposed to the 55000 of my old one. It has a 90 day warranty and its in my bike....kinda. Anyway I should be riding again v.soon. Just gotta get the top engine mounting bolts sent back to me as I left them in my old motor when I traded it in. Then get the mechanic to wire it all up as some of the wires are cut and others I just cant find. Soo riding again soon....
