Welcome to the forums Fzr3LN3... i guess it's pretty obvious what sorta bike you've got.

I've been seeing a fair few FZR's around Melbourne recently that i've never spotted before... many of them without side fairings but still with the front in-tact. I think it's time TBone got those fibreglass sides finished. ;)

Anyway, as for the respray... your likely to see alot of big numbers thrown at you in terms of prices for a complete job. Most of the expense is in the preparation work... so if your handy you can cut down alot on the costs by doing the bogging, sanding, & prepping yourself - that said it's very time consuming and if your fingers aren't sore... then your probably not finished yet. ;)

Call up a few bike repair shops a call if you want to know the upper end of the spectrum, but beware anyone who says 'yeah, i think we can do bikes.' Car spray shops are not so good on bikes... far more odd curves and intricate details to deal with.

Also, give TBone a PM cos he's the man with the contacts when it comes to getting something done for a FZR.

Me and my step bro resprayed his CBR250.
Spent around $200-$250 I think.... can't quite remember, but we used Acrylic Enamel............ That stuff rubs off pretty easily, contrary to what my step bro was told.

Either way, we had a gloss black with blue/purple pearl flames. Looked pretty hot....... for a little while.
We should've got tupack clear coat done by a spraypainter, then it probably would have been ok.

We had:
1 litre of black
1 litre of clear
250ml of pearl
and whatever the amount of thinners.

Just a project I have been working on for 6 months now.

Never drink alcohol and come up with bright ideas to re-paint with the neighbours!

Satrting on the engine soon.

Most of the exposed bolts were crap, so purchased new ones.

Painted the folowing: fairings, tank, a bit of the deltabox frame, polished the rest, handle bars, forks, discs, rear sprocket, brackets, some bigger bolts, rims + polish outer rims, frame some more to do.

1 - 1.5 litres of paint
1 litre topcoat (applied when hot and sunny as not to cloud the finish)
Basic thinners for undercoat and high build about 10 litres
Premium thinners for the paint about 8 litres

Bike was originaly White, Blue and Navy Blue. No side fairings as they flew off some time ago.

Looks a thousand times better than before, worth it!

That looks great. Did you do all the painting and polishing yourself?

Yep. The neighbour has a air compressor. Cuts out a lot of time.

We took our time with the undercoat and high build, a few coats, sand it some more coats got it baby smooth.

Still going to sand it back once more, especially the tank and give it one more coat of paint and top coat before a cut and polish on the polish wheel.

We have painte everything, even the bracket tha holds the horn, the ick stand and spring, and so on.

NOICE!

I'm thinking of painting up mine... Dad works for a panelbeaters' - so I should be able to "squeeze" the bike in for a session or two

Dunno how I'll get around without it though

Any recommendations for paint strippers?
