Purchased a bike today for something to do over winter, hopefully its not to bad as I have purchased it without seeing it. Picking it up next week. Bike is a non runner but looks OK. I was wondering if this was an original colour scheme. If not, is there an original colour scheme with a black fuel tank?

Colour schemes are in the attached PDF. There's a black ZXR250A in there.

Well picked up the bike, boy was it dusty. The good so far - Instruments are spotless, fairings are in very good condition and are the original Japanese ones, the bike turns over, very little rust in the tank and bike does not appear to be messed with. The not so good so far - 2 small dings in the tank, leaking fork seals.

First off I will be washing the whole bike down and then do up the carburettors. Hopefully the bike will then start.

I will completely respray the bike fairings, wheels
and tank once I have the bike running as I can't see the point until I know its going to run. Tyres and battery will also be replaced and brakes done up at that stage. I have another set of good ZXR250A forks with good seals I can put on.

Think I will put it back to its original colours (Black and Gold) though may spray the rims Gold as I have seen one like that and it looked good.

That dent in the rear of the tank would have hurt. :lolsign:

    Was thinking the same thing.

Washed the fairings today and they are actually in really good condition, so good that I may just fix up the one small scrape and leave the rest alone. I will change the wheels to Firecracker Red as a contrast to the Ebony if I do.

I hope to get the dings out of the tank tomorrow.

Carburettors rebuilt with new jets, needles and seats, gaskets. Forks done up with new seals. Brakes with new seals, pads and a colour change. Rims had a colour change and some new boots. New front indicators as the rubbers were perished. New speedo cable as it was shitty. New coils, plugs and leads. Rust removed from tank and holes repaired. New rear guard liner as it had the reflector cut off. Now painting the fairings and then will add the gold decals. Having a break OS for a month then will get back into it.
