Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows where in Melbourne, Victoria i could purchase a new or working radiator for my FZR250 1990 3ln1?

If any one knows anything or thinks that one from another bike may fit then that would be much appreciated. Bike is getting way too hot, when i pulled up home today after a 15 minute ride i could hear bubbling of water and the thermostat was about 3/4 of the way up. The bike does have water in it, so that shouldnt be a problem, yesterday when it was rather hot i did notice that it has got so hot that water began leaking out of overflow !!!!

I dont ride the bike overly hard generally try to keep revs below 8k.

The bike however does need a tune as it does idle too fast, but even whilst moving the bike is still a tad too hot for my liking

THanks in advance

JB

no point buying another radiator if thats not the problem...could be gunked up...could be half closed thermostat. when was the last time the fluid was changed? Id take the radiator out - flush it and make sure everything else is in good nick - add some fresh coolant and then see how you go. the fans seem to only come on at the last quater on these bikes anyway so whats more important is the temp when running although you dont want it overheating in traffic (does the fan come on?) If your water overflowed a bit then it might have had to much in there (did you add some extra when worried about the temp>?) coolant systems (like in cars) are pretty basic in design but if there not maintained then this is the sort of thing that happens (it is a 20 year old bike after all)..id check all that first as a second hand one will prob be no differnt to the one you have and a new one will give you a heartattack i remember kawasaki wanted 700$ for one for my zzr!

Replace the radiator cap and the thermostat, that's a common problem.
Then make sure the radiator fan works..

OK just finished flushing the radiator after pulling it off and using the pressure washer to force water through in reverse opperation. Then put radiator back in and did the same whilst all the hoses were connected to make sure there was no gunk in the hoses.. Question for Dave's reply; Where is the radiator cap? Pretty sure mine doesnt have one And without a radiator cap i assume it just fills from the reservoir in the back quater? So anyways i started the bike, all was well for like 10 minutes idling, which doesnt usually happen, usually gets pretty hot pretty quick, anyways stayed on C for about 8 minutes or so, it then just RAMPED up about 3/4 of the way and the fan came on.. I decided to feel the temp of the radiator with my hand and to my amazment is was still cold.. So quickly turned off the bike.. So what im thinking is that i have to some how make up a hose to fill the radiator first? From what i can see the reservoir tank doesnt connect directly with the radiator itself hence not actually filling it! Would i be correct with that?

So yeah basically asking, should i have to fill the radiator itself? How do i do it without a radiator cap?

Do these bikes have a water pump? Where is it and how would i go about checking it?

cheers fellas, sorry but i just wanna ride my baby without risking hurting her!

Thanks

JB

On the 2KR the radiator cap is at the R.H. side in front of the petrol tank. I assume the 3ln is in a similar position.. It should have a bracket over it held by two bolts to stop you from opening the cap inadvertently..
