I have a 1981 Honda CB650 which I've got up and running much better now and was looking to get another project, no big singles or manic two strokes available in Ireland where I live and when I'm at work in the UK I've no time to look around.
I was offered a rough and poorly running original 1985 Honda CB250RSD for Euro600 from a dealer and decided to give it a go, mostly inspired by your forum member TechHeadFred and his trio of RS's. Mine isn't quite as bad as his were but I get more enjoyment getting things fixed (cheaply) than sitting around the house.
Caliper is seized, no surprise there of course, head is noisy, no surprise again and the bottom frame rail ahead of the centre stand has rotted away, another unsurprising fact.
My intention is just to get it running well, tidied up, no restoration and maybe use it as a hack about town, exactly what it was designed for.
I like the look of the forum, didn't realise it was an Aussie production at first, used to live in Sydney as a child in the early sixties and visited a few times over the years but never for any length of time.
I hope to get a few pointers and maybe in return I can help others as well.

Welcome to the forum @jimv50, your 250 Honda looks to be in reasonable condition considering it's age.
Look forward to watching what you end up doing with it.

    Welcome.
Looks a pretty tidy bike. Rusted frames are something we don't have to deal with here, but should not be a problem to fix.

Current update, brake caliper could not be repaired or restored. So I got hold of a set of calipers from a CX500 and a used CX500 disc in very good condition, got one working set from all the parts, a set of new seals and boots and fitted it all in a morning. Bleeding through a new HEL braided hose took longer than I had anticipated, had to use a syringe in the end, but left it overnight with a cable tie on the brake lever and now it's rock solid and possibly a bit over braked.New pads fitted at the same time front and rear easily.
It wouldn't tick over well, kept racing up to 4,000 after a few seconds, I had already stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the carb carefully, apart from the pilot mixture screw ......
This was found to have a perished and split O ring, quickly replaced from a kit, but the washer was missing and the spring jammed up inside the passageway. It looks like I'm going to have to buy a kit just to get the worlds smallest washer.
Drive chain was replaced with a new one, only cut two fingers getting the joining clip on and off. I tried changing the final sprocket but the nuts are well rounded, another job for another day.
Cam cover has several wrong bolts fitted and cannot be tightened down correctly, I going to have to buy a set of stainless allen bolts and do the whole engine while I'm at it, something i was against from the start, but needs must.
Now have spent some time sanding and trying to polish the rims back into shape as well, long job here I think.
And the indicators have stopped working as well now....the electrics are not my forte.

Try some copper anti-size on the stainless bolts to stop the corrosion.

    :welcome:

Great to hear I've inspired someone!
Your RS-D looks to be in pretty decent shape.

I'm having trouble with the electrics on these old Hondas too, neither of my two running ones have working lights!
I've found a lot of the original fasteners and rubber parts are still available, as long as you can find the part number.

Which washer did you need from the carb kit?
I might have a spare I could post you.
