Hi all, been lurking for a while.

Managed to low-side Nix in the rain on the way to work on Tuesday and thought I'd share the GoPro footage.

Fortunately I was only doing 40 by the time I went over the gutter.

    Snapped off the left rearset:

    Right side for comparison:

Got a lift home from a helpful lady whose husband rides, then went back in the Outback with my trailer, tie down straps and a ramp to collect the bike.

I'd forgotten to bring Nix' key after getting changed but thankfully another rider saw me struggling and stopped to help me load her on the trailer.

    Got her home safely.

Went to the medical centre to get checked over after that. Luckily I was only bruised, so the Doctor's recommendation was Ibuprofen and rest.

Hell of a way to get two days off work!

What happened? Just lost traction on the road?

Looks to me like the back brake locked and bought you around ?

Glad you are okay, doesnt look like a too hard fix, just a rear set to get it on the road. How are the wheels ? Did they buckle \ dint when you hit the curb ?

Yeah I could feel I wasn't going to come of that corner still on the bike either way, so opted for landing on the dirt rather than in the path of traffic behind me.

Wheels looked ok, will check once I get her off the trailer. Already got another left rearset from the wreckers. figured I'd replace the rear shock while I was at it too.
Grand total of $170 worth of parts...

Was it the front or rear that slipped out? Looks like you were countering the slip?

I found with the fizzer, the tyre pressures that brian put in were good in the dry but the rear likes to step out in the wet. Going to reduce it 1-2 psi when cold and see how it goes.

Not sure to be honest. I'm thinking the dodgy rear shock didn't help either way.
I'm riding Jack (CBF250F) again at the moment. But if a change of pace!

Should be there on one of my bikes regardless. Might have the KLR650 working again or even the FZR400 on the road by then! :)

glad to hear your all good mate! and glad to see not much damage.

wonder if it was not enough front brake coming up to the corner and you locked the back?

Front tyre probably needs attention. Rear was replaced about 1000 km ago.

While it felt like I lost traction on the front wheel first, I'm pretty sure the rear shock, overconfidence and/or my general riding style all contributed. I've had the rear lose a bit of traction in both wet and dry conditions a few times in the past few weeks but always recovered OK until Tuesday morning.

Could be the rear brake pads again - I was lazy and didn't get a new disc when I changed them and I've been in stop-start traffic a lot since then.

Glad you are OK Fred, never enjoy watching someone go down. Having watched your clip several times, the rear let go and you tried then to correct, heading into the curb was your best solution.
Lucky for both you and the bike, damage is minimal. Take care mate.

if the front tyre is old buy a new soft compound rubber one.i had similar problems 40 years ago and was too dumb to realize though the tyre had plenty of tread it was hard. wet weather and a corner and pick up the bike again.

Thanks Phil. Some idiot on Facebook tried to tell me I couldn't possibly have deliberately mounted the kerb and I should have just committed and powered through the corner.

Yeah, thinking that might be a good plan if I keep Nix rather than sell her.

Good to know your ok Fred.
Locking of back brake (engine noise stopped) is never good, especially so in the wet.

Old and hard front tyres don't cope with water well. That's what got me and it was only damp.

Don't see what the age of the front tyre has to do with locking the back brake?

And she's fixed! Also swapped out the rear shock with pleasing results :)

    Before replacing the rearset.
