Well I was riding home from work today. About 1 km into my journey my bike starts to play up on me. The first symptom:
- I was travelling down a road, ~60 k/hr, and all of a sudden I just lost all power. I let go of the throttle, opened it again, and nothing happened.

Well, I quickly found a side street and pulled it over there... Here is what I found:
- I would open the throttle, but there was no change in the engine (i.e. not revving) except perhaps for a minor sputter then return to idle
- It was idling fine

Well, that was about it. I was trying to think of what would make my bike do this. First thought - broken throttle cable. But it couldn't be - it would still rev the odd time. Had me stumped...

Until I actually looked at my throttle when I opened it. I would twist, the grip would follow, but when I let it go it just stayed there (i.e. wouldn't return). So then I realised that it had rained and this may have caused my grip to become slippery and actually just rotating around the bars (which is strange as I have had these grips for 1.5 years on my bike and were wired on). But I checked this, and sure enough my grip came off easily. I rode the rest of the way home without a grip on my throttle. Just a note - it requires a lot of squeezing to use the throttle when you don't have a nice sticky grip to use

The wire actually broke. I didn't have a good wire when I put these grips on originally, so I used a large paperclip as I thought it would hold.

I am now re-wiring it (with proper wire this time), with a touch of glue.

Moral - do things right the first time!

Good on ya Boz, you worked out the issue... i would probably be there for hours b4 i realised it was the grip. Nothing worse then having your bike not going anywhere when your on a main road.

One time i was riding around my bike just wouldnt accelerate... and i loss all powe so i had to pull over... then my bike turned off.. and i tried starting it... i was like WTF?? I was checking my Fuel Tap.. but that was already on...there was petrol in the tank.. so after 10 minutes it started back up.. Looked like my bike flooded but now when i looked at it.. maybe i did run out of petrol and put it on reserve ... probably why it started up again.. Hmmmm ... my Fizzer is sometimes just weird.. or is it the owner hehe.

Haha what happned to you happend to me millons of times Dean. When I first brought my bike it was running extremly rich. Going through fuel like there was no tomorrow. Man I would use a tank in no time at all. I would be riding through town and then it would just splutter and back fire than die Then turn the tap to reserve and away we go to the petrol station.

I thing tunes the carbs set the mix right and balenced the carbs now she goes for ever on one tank of gas im stocking
