Painting exhaust/headers

    hey i want to paint my stock exhaust/header should i sand the old paint off before putting on the new stuff?? and should i try to get the surface as smooth as possible or a little bit rough?

    You don't have to go to the metal ... just buy 3M pad and rough it up. The main thing is for the painted surface to be rust and oil free. You will use some kind of a high heat resistant paint, right?

    Engine paint will be your best bet if you go ahead, my muffler was giving off some nasty fumes because some nub used some cheap spraypaint.
