Hey guys, So short embaressing story is I'm coming home from a kebab run (can't sleep well in the first few hot days of the year) when a possum runs out in front of me on my dry dirt road. Locked the front brakes and slid out. Clever me. I'm fine, as I ride ATGATT and it as only about 30km/h, however the poor bike needs a new right-side indicator, a new brake pedal (it seems to have just snapped off), potentially the wing mirror mount is damaged (though the mirror itself is intact) and the fairings are scratched up (with one little crack). I'll send pics in the morning but what can I expect to be paying to fix this up? What perhaps more common Suzuki parts are available as replacements? Oh, and earlier in the night i nearly ran out of fuel -barely had enough change to get enough fuel to get home. Cheers folks, I'm going to quietly crawl into bed now.
Hey Artemis As long as your okay, the Across does share some commom parts with the GSXR250 ( rare as rocking horse poo) and the RGV250. The good news is you dont have to buy from Suzuki, there is a company called MCS that sells plenty of pattern parts for the Across and 9 out 10 bike shops resell MCS parts, I'd give your local bike shop a call and see what they can do, I would estimate an indicator would be $40 and a brake pedal would be about $50, I bought a set of MCS mirrors off my local bike shop and the pair were $60. Hopefully your back on the road soon Chris
Yeah, the expensive thing will be a new helmet... when I came off I felt a little sore around the side of my head, on the side I impacted, though it went away after a few minutes. Still not something i want to **** around with so new helmet too... Here are some pics of the damage, cheers for the lead on MCS by the way...
...does not seem to be an edit button for your own posts on this forum, if there is I apologise for the double post but... what would folks estimate the bill would be on getting the fairing repaired? It's mostly just scratched up but there is also a spot where it cracked... pretty small though.
Hey Artemis Not sure mate, spray painting and panel repairs vary from place to place, I dont think you would see much change from $300 , I may have a red side panel at home, I will check tonight. As for the edit time, you have 5 mins from time you submit your post to edit it, after that its locked in for all eternity 8) Chris
got a rough quote for 350 from Melbourne Motorcycle Fairings... so yeah... bit pricey. If you have a spare side fairing Kiffsta that could be great... otherwise I was wondering if I could just do a fill and sand job with some sort of resin bonding agent or somesuch... any advice regarding that? it's mostly scratches in the bodywork, not too deep.. Like I said, just one small section has cracked... Advice/tips?
you could try and do some reapiring yourself. Try this http://2fiftycc.com/http://www.2fiftycc.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=2 Cheers len
Hey Artemis Don't know what they put in those Kebabs, beware my friend. As long as your OK, the rest can be fixed. By the look of it, you were pretty lucky. Don't think it will take to much to get her going again. Final word from, watch out for POSSUMS Phil
Slender, It looks like the fairings on the across are fiberglass not plastic... which makes it harder to repair... but cheers for the link
oh ok. Mine are fibre glass and i just used epoxy and car bog then smoothed at all out. came up a treat. You could try that if u want or but yourself some Fibre Glass and have a go repairing it yourself. Either way mate good luck and at least your ok. There is lots of bikes out there but only one you.
If it's fiberglass you can easily strengthen with a bit of fiberglass on the inside of the flaring and some bog on the outside to smooth it out and a little paint.
Hey Artemis My red panel is worse than yours, I do have a green one thats in pretty good condition, a few tabs on the inside are broken Chris
Well the brake leaver arrived today so that's going on when the rain stops, then tomorrow I'll pick up the new indicators. Wednesday I'm getting a quote from a local bloke who's done some good work in the past for my boss as to how much it would cost for repairing the fairings... we'll have to see. Chris, how much would you want for that panel? might be handy to have around as a spare...
