Peg/Gear lever Plate stuck

    Hey guys, I need some help.
    Im trying to get that plate of which is connected to the gear lever and peg, there are 2 bolts that u need to unscrew to take it from what i see. Anyhows i have tried removing it with an allen key no luck its real tight.. i tried allen key and hammer no luck.. try wd40 with allen key and hammer still no luck.. im out of ideas any1 can help unscrewing this?

    I would suggest trying an impact screwdriver.

    They are simply a screwdriver that when you hit the end with a hammer it causes the tip to rotate slightly (converts the force from the hammer into rotational force). This works well on 'stubborn' screws and also quite well on screws with stripped heads. Also - if it is a rusted screw and you are worried about it breaking this works great too!

    Can pick them up from kmart for around $10; $15-$20 from a hardware store. Just make sure they have the appropriate heads (hexagon bits of appropriate size - the sizing is the same as the allan key size). If not you may have to buy additional heads or an adapter for it as well.

    heat.....

    Dont like the idea of smacking it with an impact driver myself - may damage the threads even more or even worse snap the frame......

    You could use a Brazing torch to get some heat into the threads to ease them off, seems to work well on rusty bolts etc - just make sure u have no petrol leaks or anything important nr the heat!

    I found the allen key head and bought a metric spanner which broke lol but i had my other one and the bolt to hold the allen head and got it alrite.. but peg become loose again aftering tightening it so goin really tight it this time and see how the peg holds..

    thanks for help guys much appericated.. i bought the impact screw driver.. only to find the farkin heads for allen key are not made to fit in that device hehe but i know it come handy later on..

    That's what is great / confusing about an impact driver. It doesn't damage threads - the exact opposite. It is a combination of adding pressure and rotation force that means the screw/bolt actually gets 'stronger' (i.e. it has more internal force holding it together caused by the 'impact', while the rotational force turns it). If there are screws that are stuck, de threaded, or heads that have been ruined, impact drivers often do the job. It is possible to snap and ruin threads when only roatational force is applied.

    As for damaging the frame - usually it only takes taps, not heavy hammering and damaging the frame is very unlikely (unless you miss hitting the driver...)

    The impact driver is a good tool. Ive used one alot but I wouldnt use one alot of the time. Rattle guns are real good. I normally put a pipe that is like 1 meter long onto the allen key and use that is an extended lever. It works realy well. Longer lever action equals more force.
