Soooooo..... I know people are going to have their opinions on this one but I am interested in what you guys think. Option 1: US$53 per set genuine suzuki imported from the UK (which in turn is imported from Japan). Ends up being US$224.65 total including post Option 2: US$14.49 per set imported from China, free postage meaning total would be US$57.96. I gather these are probably chinese copies: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEW-...ANDIT-250-72A-73A-PISTON-RINGS/772124382.html Considering I am trying to keep my costs down the chinese ones are attractive cost wise... Thoughts?
.... Decisions, as long as worst case scenario is they leak a little and you don't blow anything using the Chinese ones you would only be out $57, might be worth a try.....
Yeh... it's a tough one. I'm sure anyone from suzuki would, (with a pretend horrified look) say something like "chinese rings? are you &^C*#$! crazy?!". But the reality is these days a lot of parts are manufactured in china, even for the japanese companies - so I can't convince myself that it would be anything other than a small gamble. The price difference is so large I'm leaning towards it but wanted to get a few opinions first... locally ONE set will set me back $75 AUD from the bike shop - screw that.
I would go with the chinese ones too. They may be a little bit lesser in quality than the genuine part but will still be good enough for 99% of people. The engines made for chinese bikes (I have a CF Moto quad) seem to be reasonable lasting if treated well.
A lot of Aussie working in forging and machining lost to China and India because of price quality was crap but a lot better these days hence y I left the trade as work is hard to come by trying to compete I would go Chinese part
i bought a set for the fzr yammy and if i did not know they were from china[erica 23]on ebay i would have said on appearance they were factory. when i fit time will tell but for street use i consider they will do the job well.
Stu, I understand your trepidation..I was a bit 'fingers crossed' before they arrived ..and in earnst was still the same until they were fitted and the bike ran..and stayed the same even after i'd done new compression readings and knew they were good lol..they've only done just over 2.5k at the moment so i cant give them a thumbs up in stardard engine tune on the longevity front as its to early to say..I do know if the rev limit is raised to over 20k then I wouldn't go down this route..if i was keeping the bike indefinitely i'd go original oem but they are damned expensive..and if your looking to keep costs down i'd say the pattern ones are more than worthy of a few $$..You can get original Suzuki rings from the same website I put that link upto before as there listed as an oem part..check with supplier first via email but think a full set is about 10 us$ per piston..i'll try find you the link now mate..but as its china it could be just the same rings in a fake (or forged) SGP packet..any more progress from your side mate? fingers crossed its coming together for yus.. Cheers si
Thanks guys. I suppose the only concern I have is the type of metal they use - china is known to use grades of steel with different additive tolerances (% composition tolerances) hence why things from china seem to rust really quickly. But if they fail less than 20k later then I suppose I can just buy genuine and I'm only really out $60.
Hey guys, what about chinese front/rear sprokets and a chain for $USD104? Bit skeptical about the quality but I think I need a new front sprocket. The rear one is ok but may as well change both if I'm doing a new chain anyway...?

You're kidding me?!! I would have never found that! Nice work! I actually recognise that sun symbol. This bike already has two aftermarket sprockets from this mob, pretty worn too. Hmm...
I bought mine for the Fizz from them ..... You can buy just a basic o ring chain from your local bike shop ..... mine came from the Yammy dealer and was about $80 ....?? Do u have the chain pitch and the number of minimum links for the GSF? Ahh ...looking at that slipstream rear sprocket its a 520 pitch All u need now is number of links ..... if u cant find that online just count your old one. As long as the length is is more than needed ....... I had to grind off a few links for the FZR When u get it all together u just have the wheel fully in (towards the motor) on the adjusters and measure up the chain to fit . Master clip goes on this way and dont forget the O rings for the master link ....
I don't have a master link on the existing chain. Quite annoying. Well where I can get two sprokets and a chain from china for like $110 it's a bit more cost competitive. I'm not sure the chinese ones will be as good as the ones locally though... But before I take the plunge I better get the engine running first!!
