we modified an old bench grinder, a freind lathed up an adaptor for a buffing wheel its a verry fast way to polish parts, you cut with 800 work your way up to 2000, cover with autosol and buff the hell out of it.
the only problem i have found with buffing is the white corrosion. did a waterpump for a car on it it, got wet in the shed 2 weeks later it looked like arse

Its not good for the skin at all ha but it works better using your fingers.

and it is actually purple,
the brand is California Custom but the name is Purple Metal Polish

They also sell a Aluminium Deoxidizer which makes it 100 percent better again
you use it before you use the purple.

we sell the stuff at my work and use it all the time its amazing

polished parts = most time consuming SHIET in the world.

I use Mother - Steel and Alum Polish

I dont see why the Steel frame wouldn't polish up, as i said previously... polishing is a MASSIVE workload on cleaning day. seeing as though the frame is much thinner, it might be a little easier on the elbows

yes you are correct, rust will come for sure and in spots you cant see too. if you paint clear onto polished surfaces:
a - it makes the shine look dull
b- paint wont last long on there cos there is no "key" to make the paint grab on.

just get it powder coated, an awsome long lasting glossy finish
