Fouled plugs is too much fuel (or not enough air = dirty air filter) or weak spark.

There have been previous reports of fouling from using SHELL OPTIMAX fuel (now called V-POWER).
From the shell website http://www.shell.com.au/home/content/au ... /overview/ and click on "IS IT RIGHT FOR MY BIKE"

Thanks a bunch guys, I'm gonna give them a clean and see if she will start, my dad wants me to take it to the mechanic but i'm not really keen to do that yet...And for the reason for fouling maybe what METOO said will come true for me to, One time i read a post that if you don't change gear around 10000-14000 revs it can cause "Carbon" fouling so maybe i'm changing to soon?

Really, the bottom line is that fouled plugs is the fuel mix is too rich, particularly when riding around town at lower throttle openings. The plugs just don't get quite hot enough to burn the crap off. You can run hotter plugs but that does not address the real issue.

The cause of the richness is probably leaking or worn float bowl valves. If leaking, remove and replace, or try and make them reseat. If the seats have worn, adjust the floats so that they close off at a lower level.
There are posts on the site about how to do this.

There is also a possibility that there are other parts worn in the carbs, but I would look at the floats first.

Thanks Dave
I took off the plugs and the ones that were in there were (NGK CR9E's) wich is a colder plug, I'm wondering if it would make much of a difference if I put the original one's (NGK CR8E) in so maybe the hotter one would fix it, considering it was made to run that heat, or is it not enough to do anythink.

spending 20 bucks on some plugs is alot cheaper than getting a mechanic to look at it, worth a shot at least..

I'm fairly sure FZR 250 is suppossed to run CR8E. So put a set of thoose bad boys in and see if theres a difference.

Hey guys, so far so good i changed the plugs for some CR8E's and my dad's a previous mechanic and now works at a parts and help type shop, so he got me a half price deal on the plugs through the supplier and now my bike (well so far) goes really good , i just hope that running a hotter plug it wont foul up again thanks for all the help guys.

Cheers to everyone. Best bike and website ever...period.

great to hear, but out of curiosity what is 'a long time' and to go from what point on the temp to what you would call warm?

Thanks, and well the temp gouge goes right from the bottom to about just above the 2lines (about a centimetre from the bottom) and that still isn't operating temperature but i let it warm up for like 5min's go easy on it for another 5 or 10 then I hoon it.

Ok on getting the right plugs. I paid $4 each (4 years ago) for mine. Bike shop wanted heaps more. I think i got mine at Bursons.

the warm up time seems about right.. same as mine. but i usually start riding gently just above the break in the temp guage (less than 6000) until the about 5 mins it takes to warm up. i wouldn't be too worried if it takes 5 mins to warm up properly (with choke)

Plugs seemed to be your main issue. I would still recomend changing your filters, air and fuel. Just to be on the safe side, also it may pay to next time you run low on fuel to remove the tank completely, drain it and give it a flush. There is bound to be crap in it. Make sure you have fresh clean fuel to get you to a servo tho. No point putting dirty fuel back into a clean tank. Should take maybe an hour tops, but will give you piece of mind. If it happens again consider removing carbies and cleaning all the jets, especially if it sat around for a while before you bought it. Glad to hear its running well.

Hey guy's, thought i'd give you an update...

My bike runs perfect now, it's been a long time coming but it turned out to be a mix of alot of little problems.

1- New battery, the old one couldn't hold it's charge and was making the regulator work harder then it needed to, there for the bike ran like crap because of weak ignition. But after the new battery ran better again... but i couldnt get passed 12,000 RPM.

2- I found out that the EXUP cables were around the wrong way (believe it or not i was actualy happy, this explains alot of the symptoms i've been having) the previous owner must of done it when he replaced the exhaust with an aftermarket DIC one.(also the reason he would have sold it, because it was running badly, i got a bargen.) Since this was my first 250 four Cylinder bike i didn't know what to expect so i did not know that the cable was around the wrong way untill i went for a ride and found it couldn't get passed 12,000 rpm which made me finaly have a look at the EXUP.

3- Carbs got balanced cleaned they wern't to bad, this was before the EXUP problem it improved the bike alot but, still had problems oviously becuase of EXUP.

4- New Fork seals they were leaking..

Hmmm thats all i can remember but it's so great to have it run like it's supposed to, a whole new take on FZR's now i almost went and traded it in for a GN250 or somethink just for the heck of reliability. But now i wouldn't trade it for the world i love it.

Thanks for all the help guys, i got it all form here.

Most likely running rich, or using the wrong plugs.
