red light coming on

    took bike out for run tonight first time since i bought it, got to 7000rpm 80 kmh and the red light in the tacho dial came on any ideas anyone (1989 fzr250 2kr)

    I can't think of a red light in the tach. The oil light is in the 'idiot light' pod, and the 'too fast' light is (I thought) in the speedo.

    The speed light is only on the 2KR models and comes on at 80k

    The light is because in Japan, the speed limit is 80km/h

    So when you exceed 80km/h you can get booked, so it warns you that you have hit that speed
