Well, as some of, if not most, if not all of you know with the recent problems with my road bike, Cherry, I have bought another 3LN3 Fizzer from @Mclaren . It came as a near complete bike, 99% or there abouts. Missing the front Guard, and needs a tank, as the other one is rusted to shyte. Basically I have pilfered this bike of all its good parts and nicknack's to put on Cherry to get that bike pretty much up to my standard. The loom was the major element that needed swapping due to not having indicators, and it was this line of thinking that made realise "You dont need indicators for a......TRACK BIKE!" After familiarising myself with the bike, I have found a few things. - Starter motor needed replacing (Luckily I pilfered my old 2kr for that) - Throttle cable. - Oil Drain plug. (The thread at the bottom of that one is rooted) - Clutch cable spring. - Front Master Cyl needs a good seeing to (Oh god, Deja vu there) - Front Cowling Frame needs a good bend back into shape, it has gone down hard at some point & damaged the throttle cable housing. - Engine frame bolts. - Engine frame to engine bolts. - Chain, sprockets, oil and filter, plugs, tyres, grips, bar ends (but these are a consumable and obligatory with any bike revival) - RH footpeg is broken. - One lead needs a snip and plug re-attached (may as well do em all) - Possibly a radiator. One of the hose connection points may be too far corroded. - Possible cross-threading of no 2 Plug hole. So today after a bit of oil down the 4 plug holes (along with some degreaser down no 2), 2 failed electric starter cranks, some manual cranking and freeing up of the motor, it hand cranked smooth, hit the starter 3 times, and Yahtzee! Freed Fizzer motor. Next step is, to get that oil pan bolt. It leaks like a sieve. Basically, you pour it in, 10 seconds later it comes out. I cant attempt to start it without oil. So without that I cant really start. Then if I get it running, there's the case if the motor runs well, gearbox is ok, clutch is ok. So we are a long way from the "Tracking" part. Or building for the track part. But some I'll shut up now and show some pics: I must stress though, that this is a budget build. And if I cant get the thing going, it ends there and gets parted out. Heres hoping! And heres hoping that the girlie doesnt leave me when the bike that was only meant only for spare parts and go after a few days, winds up staying!
I know the feeling - the bike I bought because it was cheap and I could "sell it after not much work" is now my daily ride while I fix the others! Fortunately (or possibly not) the relationship is still at the stage of separate living and financial arrangements so I can get away with it.
Well my brother came to stay with me for a coupla nights to help me work on my car. We stood around the bike and I explained possible plans for it. And he asked to see if the valves were working. So we ripped off the carbs and found that number 1 is rusted to all shyte and number 2 valve isn't closing all the way. Not to mention number one carb is stuck open. In his opinion this engine needs a rebuild before hitting Tarmac. Road or track. So the decision has been made to strip it. I just don't have the $ coming in to do an engine rebuild plus the rest of the bike. That was always the disclaimer. If I can get enough from parting it, it could possibly go towards another track bike. In the end we'll see. I have other interests that cost money, & looking to get back into You'll see a post in the FS section soonish on what's on offer. Or PM for anything else. Catch ya's on the next one.
