Help Rusty brake hose coils

    Does anyone have any ideas for restoring the rusty coils covering brake hoses? Would rather not just buy new hoses but can’t get the coils off to recoat… IMG_1872.jpeg Thanks for any tips :)

    I guess I could just paint the whole thing?
    Just so you know - this isn’t a full blown resto, just want to make it safe and tidy up some cosmetics. Brakes will be getting new pistons & seals so they work but the hose is functionally ok. Just fugly.

    blown CBR250r
    White vinegar will get rid of that rust, but, it'll also remove the protective coating on the steel coils as well.
    2 days soaking should do it, without damaging the rubber ?

    Could I just rip it off and go without it?
    Although I’m sure Mr Kawasaki put it there to protect from chafing?

    I think you could get them plated. Nickel or zinc would be fine.

    Do you have evaporust there? Soaking in that will easily remove the rust in a couple hours soak.

    Wire brush on bench grinder and paint them black.

    Another alternative is to rip them right off and replace with coloured teflon spiral electrical wrap.
    I call it electrical wrap but that's usually black or white. Scuba dive shops sell the same thing in bright colours to go on exposed air lines so they're seen. It's cheap and looks good.

    You don't need to remove them from the hose to plate them. One of the members here had their Kawasaki hoses plated and showed them on the forum along with all the other fasteners. @TonyZXR was that you?
