Should a VX commodore beat a FZR250?

this may sound strange but im curious.

my 2kr is running, but isnt at its peak performace yet. have a few issues to deal with (unsure exactly what).. now as some of you guys know my bike lags at 10rpm for about 1sec. i found out last night while crusing that it has another lag at 14rpm (didnt realise this before cause i aways changed gears during the lag at 14 thinking that was it for power) but it comes back at 16 through to red-line..

Also i can only get about 120k's out of a full tank with reserve running a further 10-14k's..

I had a run the other day with my mates VX commodore. (this thing should run 0-100 in the 8's). Now he beat me (didnt eat, just beat). This brings me to my point. How should the fzr perform against a car like that? i would have thought i would eat him.. Also, im revving the bike at about 10rpm before i take off (when im racing him) and ease off the clutch. if i pop the clutch while at 10rpm then the bike will lose its rpm, bogg down for abit then pick up again. Any ideas on where my bike needs tuning.. The exup has been looked at, the carbies are new but not balanced (i dont know how that makes sense as well).. any ideas? (im at work pretty bored right now) thanks fellas..

I have been told that the fzr250 should be able to do 0-100 in approximately 5.5 seconds when perfectly tuned and ridden by a good drag type rider (not me). I have always considered respectable times to be around 7 seconds. I have never actually timed a person doing 0-100, I just figured if 5.5 is about a perfect run then I could add about 2 seconds onto that for the normal rider.

It does sound like your carbies will need to be tuned properly. Being new doesn't mean that they are properly tuned. This is a very potential reason for the problems you describe including your fuel consumption.

One more thing - if you were dragging I would probably suggest changing gears around 16 000 revs because that way when you shift up a gear you are still in the optimum power band (which is at 12 000 - 15 000). Shifting at 14 000 you are probably dropping down to 9000 revs after a shift, and are below the power band. And yes, this is an armchair dragger advice - I generally do not drag personally and am saying this because it would seem to make sense to keep in the powerband rather than shift out of it.

I had someone clock my bike. 0-100 in 5.7 seconds I think.

Are we talking the 6 or the 8? If it is the 6 you have some problems. If you are running with a set of unbalanced and poorly tuned carbies you might as well have a dead animal in your air box. My old man has a 5.7L VX berlina, given that it is only an auto, you can hold your own on the fizzer as long as you keep it around 12 - 15 and away from long straight roads.

By the look of this chart, going right to the red line in the first 4 gears gives best acceleration

On my FZR, racing a 14/15 second quater mile turbo car.... The thing I learnt very quickly is not to leave it to redline before changing into second.

Twice I waited till just before redline to change to second and both times I lost the drag. The three subsequent races I changed at about 16krpm and won.

The only car I dragged properly on the fzr was my mates vn calais. 8 cyln with some engine work, and it was auto. I pulled away from the lights as he was struggling to get traction <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_roll.gif" alt="" title="Rolling LoL" /><!-- s:roll: --> . THen he caught me at about 80 kms an hour. You should be able to pump a 6 though.

I am eager to put my rgv against my mates 2004 XR6 Turbo.
