So after doing a little bit of reading of motorcycle trip blogs (the closest thing I can get to riding before I pay off the last on my new Daelim.... just a few more weeks!!!), I've been wondering if anyone here does any small-cap touring, where their fav. pots are, how far they go, if they join up in groups or solo, ect. ect.

I'd really like to do something this summer, well... ok more than once. I was thinking the grampionswould be great as I've never been there, and Robe is beautiful... beyond that... Not sure really.

Also, tool-wise what do you take? I've seen these 'insta fix' cartriges for punctures around... seems to be a patch/plug and a canister of compressed gas (CO2?) to fix... would certainly be handy.

    Any thoughts/tutorials/stories welcome :D

    Hey Artemis

If I've ever heard of a person that needs a bike and now, it's you.

Mind you, after reading about journeys across Europe, Russia and beyond I too have been contemplating and thinking about a grand journey. Circumnavigating our great continent. Can't seem to rid myself of the thought.

On a more manageable level, journeys that encapsulate great roads (SOME TWISTIES) and good scenery fall into the realms of reality. As for solo or multiple riders, I prefer to travel with others, like minded people with whom you can share the experience of the ride. That's just my take on it.

There are sites that provide trips that include all relevant information. Distance, places to see, duration, mileage and so on. Very informative and well worth a look.

As for the addition to your tool kit, why not include your puncture repair kit. I've never included one but it could be a good thing.

Hope you get your bike soon, hey a good ride up Queensland way should be a prime consideration.

Yeah I hear those repair kits are good... many suggest that the repair is only temporary, however... there are also just as many that say they've made the repair last the remaining life of the tire...

Regaurdless of how much faith you put in the repair, all consensus seems to be that it'll get you to a replacement.

It will take a place i my kit.

Also re queensland: Definatly on the cards, trick is getting time off both work, and the girlfriend! (I don't see me 2-uping a 250, no matter how versitile they are!)
    Nonetheless, do-able. :D

I like to travel both in groups and alone It is good to have some one to help out if something goes wrong. The motorcycle atlas is apparently good for some trips and there are a couple off apps for the Iphone with some good rides.

As for tools you may want to think of road service membership as well.

The repair kits with co2 bottles are a good idea but will take several bottles to fill a tyre. you may want to consider a small air pump instead of the co2 and a tyre repair kit. I think they advertise one in Cycle toque mag that will do the repair with one tool rather than a reamer and plug tool which looks good.

First aid kit, Screw driver, spanner, test light pliers and puncher repair kit, phone and if all else fails a box of matches!!  :D

Get one of those key ring torches. A decent tyre pressure gauge. A mini push bike tyre pump to back up those gas canisters. A map? Are you planning on doing a few day trips, or short camping trips?
