    hey guys, here's my issue.
    i just bought an Fzr250 1988 today.
the fan never worked when i tested it before i buy it, so i pluged it directly to the battery, with a switch.
on my way back home (100 km away from where i bought it )
i turned the fan on manually, i went on.
after 15 km, the engine was running hot.
i pulled over, let it cool down for about 15 minutes, then continued.
i had to run about 45-50km/h cause i didn't wannted to overheat it.
i presumed their was a problem maybe with the water pump,as the fan was on, and the radiator was full (water-anti-freeze).
once home....after about an hour, i wannted to go somewhere, i started the bike, and heavy load of white smoke, came out of the exaust, and as i push the throttle down, more and more dense smoke came out....
really disapointed, i thought maybe the guy putted something in the oil to prevent it from smoking while i was testing it...but well, it's DONE NOW, i bought it, and i need to fix it....
im very confused about people talking about white and blue smoke, i can't really tell, in my own eyes, seemed like white.
one thing is i checked the over-flow bottle of the radiator before i ride it, and it was like 3/4....once back home, it was barely visible in the overflow bottle.
now im no expert, but as far as i know, if it was something related to a leaking head gasket, wouldn't the water be pumping out of the radiator cap, when opened ? if so, none of this happened, the water in the radiator cap seemed fine and wasen't going up and down...
im really desperate, could you please tell me, what steps should i take to start looking at it ?
    thank you

White smoke/steam usually tends to indicate that water is entering the cylinder or exhaust system,
Blue smoke usually tends to indicate that its burning oil
If you cant really distinguish between the colours have a quick smell of the exhaust fumes, if its oil you will smell it, if its not oil it probably will smell like normal.
Also seeing the level of coolant going down i would say that yes your cooling system is either leaking somewhere or its coming out your exhaust.

ok guys, here's some fresh news, i started taking the bike apart.
removed the fairing, battery, air filter, fuel tank, carbs, spark plugs, and i flushed the rad coolant, and the engine oil...
what i've noticed so far is the following:

to my surprise, the 3rd spark plug, when i wanted to removed it, i simply put my fingers in there, and twisted it counter-clockwise, and it came off with no strength (it was loose).
the 4th spark plug cap is broken (wire), at least when i wanted to raise the wire so it don't bother me, it felt off so easily.
all spark plugs seems black and oily.
i checked the engine oil, and dosen't seem to have any water in it...it's just dirty (black), nothing else...
when i started the bike with no spark plugs, some oil drops came out of the spark plugs.
today i will make a compression test on each cylinder to check the pressure, that might give us some more infos...

P.S, so far i THINK there must be an issue with the piston rings....can i take off the gasket, and simply put back on the same head gasket after inspection ? if not, where could i possible find one, or how to make a GOOD one that will last at least ?...

Thank you all for you help, i really appreciate it !!!

    Ok, good progress!
I would never re-use a headg asket unless it is a re-usable gasket (most are not)
Any good yamaha motorbike dealer should be able to obtain a new head gasket.

i live in lebanon, i called the yamaha compagny, and told me that they do not hold pieces for the fzr250 whatsoever...
seems bad, went to a couple of junk yards, asked some local shops with no luck...
1 guy said that Probably he could get me one but it's not new so i told him not to....
about the compression test, well i've made some homemade tool, found some on internet on how to do so,
i must be either dumb, or their must be something faulty in the device...
i plugged my air compressor on 1 side, regulated it to 100 psi, and i plugged the other side into the spark-plug hole, both gauge gave 0 psi....
i started turning the crank (magneto), there was a mark "T" for tdc i guess but never found the other mark to align it to...
so i started turning bit by bit the crank, until somehow i managed to see 25 psi on the gauge....
air was always going out of the exhaust or from the upper side where the carburator sits...
when i got 25 psi, i put my hand on the air input and i felt pressure comming out....but i don't think that it was only the missing 75 psi going through that hole...
anyway tried the second cylinder, same story :S.
i simply gave up my leak tests....
i plan to check all the valves and valve seats etc....by the way i bought a feeler gauge, and the measures were from 1mm down to 0.05 mm (is that enough) ...the guy said there's no feeler gauges any less than that...
my only fear is removing the head off, and having issues later to get a head gasket....
thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it....that bike is my first bike, even tho knowing i was really f**ked up with my purchase, i plan to learn from it, and fixing it also...
