Hi all, I guess you all know that I stacked.

My stitches came out today and im getting edgy. I can bend my knee to a 45 allready. so i figure it will be less than a couple of months before im on the bike again.

So I better get started on the repair. I guess I'm calling out to anybody in melb with a bit of garage space. I have nowhere suitable at home, I have a few options but I figured anybody into fzr's might like to be in on it. Im should be capable of doing it on my own, but i'd rather put it together with sombody likeminded. I reckon it will take about a month to get it all sorted out.

Just reply in thread if you can help.

edit: got a place, all good.

I'd be happy to help, but I have no garage space unfortunately. My 'workshop' appears when the car out of the driveway. But as I said I'd be glad to help.

Have you determined what you need to do in order to get it ready again? Are you going to 'street-fighter' it (to eliminate the need for fairings)?

As good as some fighterised fzr's may look, i miss my fairing. And i like to ride long distances and fairing seems to help a lot in that respect.

I will be repairing the fairings as much us possible, I think that i will still need a front fairing though im hopeful that i have enough pieces. Im hunting for parts at the moment, calling around and all. Most prices seem fair, but I will have to buy a bit at a time due to life expenses etc.

Yeah Sobil, me and the guys on the ride are happy to help ya with ur rebuild man. I could offer some garage space, however 1. I live in werribee which may be a lil too far for u, lol. and Secondly, moving house soon, so that prob doesn't help either lol.

Hard to tell with that one pic, but my first worry would be whether or not the main frame is straight. It looks, as you said, that the rear frame is out - is that all? Is the deltabox etc. still straight and is the swingarm fine?

If you are only primarly concerned with the handlebar and exhaust you can find those at wreckers easily enough. Is the handlebar just pushed back or has it actually bent?

the main frame looks straight by eye. i will measure it for square tonight. The handle bare is bent. I will try to get a few opinions from mates etc on what to do next and will call around for parts after i figure out what i can fix and cannot.

If you need parts you can always call Bruce in ashwood. He has lots of parts available (and if not he can order quickly) and charges a lot less than some of the larger establishments. Can't hurt to call anyways!

    Just an update.

Picked up and exhaust and RH handlebar yesterday. Picking up a couple of mirrors tomollow.

I also went up to Healsville to find more pieces of my bike. I found a few crucial bits that means i can reuse my RH fairing.

What have you found out about the frame? I'd focus on that if you don't know yet. No sense in buying parts if it is out of whack.

Sorry, I don't mean to be the fly in the ointment.

id agree with tim on that one but seein as how there's loads of fizzers in oz, id say you should be able to pick up a frame without too much difficulty.

i could be wrong!!! i do live 10k miles away!!

The problem if you need to buy a frame is often it ends up being cheaper to replace the whole bike because if the frame is bent then it usually means other parts are also needing replacement. Mind you - you can buy the cheapest 2nd fzr you can find because you have a heap of spare parts from the first.

    hey all.

i checked out the frame a bit. I have only checked it to be square. (not skewed) and i have string lined it and it seems straight. I also had a good look at all the welds for visable fractures. Considering my budget i wont know how straight it is until i take it for a spin. The starck wasnt that bad really. just fairing damage. The rear seat frame was only twisted so i twisted it back and i looks good now. replaced the exhaust. (NB 3ln-3 exhausts have a different mount sytem to the 3ln-1).

I think i got another 2 weeks till my leg comes good. I can get my foot on the peg but thats it. so i need a bit more movement and i'll be right. better start organising a ride.... =] we'll see how it goes, i still got a bit to sort out. I'll let you all know how i go... as i go.

Perhaps the next ride can be somewhere not up into the hills... given winter is now here; it means slippery stuff like leaf litter & moss on the roads. Perhaps a GOR run?

Yeah I think the GOR is prob the only good road through winter...Definetly wont see me doing the spurs....all those leaves/black ice and gravel is just a combination for distaster.

Least the GOR has sunshine on it all day...

Well yeah, sunshine... and gravel, sand, 4WD wankers crossing over... etc etc. But i guess all thats better than leaf litter and slime.
