    1. My headlights are being dodgy at the moment. When high beams aren't on the bottom two little globes should be on, and the halogens should also be on very slightly. My halogens dont come on at all so it makes riding at night impossible. Any ideas what this is? My high beams work perfect, so the globes arent screwed, its just that whilst the high beam switch is off, the halogen globes dont come on how they're supposed to <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

    2. The four tiny screws ( kinda like the idle one ) on the engine ( carbs? ) what are these? Are they mixture screws?

    3. The big arse Gold screw driving into the centre of the engine near where the main fuel line goes, what's that?

    4. How do you adjust the rear shock?

    Thanks guys.

    #1 No clue. Sorry

#2 More than likely. I wouldn't mess with them unless you know what you are doing.

#3 That would be the Cam Chain Adjuster.

#4 I don't know what adjustment you have available to you. Got a pic of the shock?

Pics of #2 & #3 would be helpful as well, but I'm for real sure about #3.

The manual reckons they are carby synchronisation screws. Wish I could tweak them cause the bitch is running too lean for my liking. Ever since I got it serviced i've been unhappy with it.

You're right about the cam chain tensioner.

The rear shock is in section 3-40 of the manual. It's a pretty dodgy photo though. I have nfi how to do it. Someone said with a C spanner or a hammer and a screwdriver. Stuff it. I just wish I could adjust it until i feel it's the best for me.

The lights are pissing me off. Someone said that if they have two elements (one for high beam one for normal) the normal element could have blown. But on BOTH at the same time? Ugh.

Sick of this bike at the moment. It's in good condition but these little things are pissing me off. Need my headlights back, want to adjust the suspension and DEFINITELY want my bike running richer.

Might get it done when they do the steering head bearings soon, gota do the tyres so might as well. Just costs me $$

To adjust the suspension the fzr250 is supposed to have a tool kit with a hooked c-spanner which allows you to do it. But most fzr250's no longer have their tool kit. Thus your idea with screwdriver and hammer will work. You can buy these c-spanners at some places.

The lights does sound like they are blown - blowing 2 at the same time is unlikely, but not unheard of. Replace 1 and see what happens?

I got a couple of pics of the carbs last time they where off. The pic below shows the underside so you can only see two of the sync. screws for the outermost carbies.

Hrm I was talking about the four screws at the top. first one is like this \ then the other three are / / /

Strange about the lights, why would ONLY the parker element on BOTH the high beam lights die at exactly the same time. Yet the high beam element works perfectly. I have no idea where to source these lights, been everywhere.

Thnx for the help guys. Next time I'm thinking about doing the carbs myself, getting some tools and the manual and doing it alone. I still think the bike is lacking power. When i'm at about 6-8krpm and the throttle is on just slightly, if i try and wind the throttle all the way to accellerate the bike kinda chugs for a split second before kicking in, its hard to explain, there's no instant power to the wheels, if over 8 its ok, but i can still feel quite slightly the delay. I loved the bike before it got serviced, it may be healthier now but the thing is still lacking power majorly.

I'm starting to doubt things now, the receipt says "Strip and clean carbies".. well does that mean you tuned them or just took them off the engine and degreased the outside? And then "Check Shims". I thought they re-do my valve clearances, maybe they thought it was fine and didn't need it. Fair enough but ever since servicing it feels different, sounds different, lacks response in lower RPM and most of all doesn't wheelie ;-)

How difficult is it for someone who knows nothing about bikes to do the carbs providing they have the tools and manual?

Wouldn't you think after servicing the bike would feel much nicer? Well it doesn't. Sounds crap, feels like crap, i liked it before.

With all that said, I don't really have any engine issues with it. Can't complain about reliability. But hey, I'm entitled to whinge.

    I'm not 100% sure, but the \ / / / diagram looks to be float-bowl drains.

Given my skill with tools and knowledge of engines, which isn't a great deal, I do not want to tackle doing my carbs alone, nor the valves.

That is why I'm enlisting the help of the Brotherhood members that live close to me. Both have done MAJOR engine work to their bikes.

    Carb's realy scare me.

Ditto. Though my father-in-law has just bought a carb synchronizer and is going to guide me through my fears...

(think those brotherhood members would come over to Aus to help me?)

The ones that are at \///. are the float bowl drain screws. If you take them out it will just spill petrol all over the place.

Those I beleive are the fuel mixture screws. Not 100% though.

Boz: Sure*, they'd love to stop by and give you a hand.

Thanks for the info. Do you think the carbs might be out of whack if i get flat spots?

If im at say 8krpm going at 60/70km, and i rev it full throttle to speed up as fast as i can, for a second i get a flat spot, like, the bike shakes and doesnt really pickup, but then it goes after that. I get it in third gear at 16krpm too if im taking off and reving the bike hard to get somewhere fast... at 16k rpm shakes and doesnt wanna put out much power... but then if i change gears its nice...

It's gota be something, cause the bike was fine before servicing.

You can try to adj the mixture screws, but first make a mark where they are at currently so you can set it back. Then turn them all the way in and count the turns, including any half turn at the end.

I would suspect that they are between 2 and 3.5 turns out. 3.5 would be the outside most, I'd think. In will be leaning it out, and out will richen it up.
DO NOT hold me to that.

Check with your local tuner for more info.

You had no flat-spots befor you had the work done? How long has it been since the work was done? Is it possible to take it back and tell them that it isn't right and they need to correct it AT THEIR OWN COST.

You have paid full price for work that was not done properly and you should either get the bike repaired at no additional expense or a full refund. Call me anal about quality work, but if I'm going to pay for it, IT WILL BE DONE TO MY SATISFACTION

Well ciaran said they are the float bowl drain screws. Have no idea what the mixture screws are. Knowing me i'd **** up. The guy who serviced the bike said he cold make it richer without a hastle, but i think its more than that to be honest. It feels dodgy... Flat spot is definitely not a good thing. Then again, if it's too lean, that might be causing it because not enough fuel is getting burnt when i need it.

How many miles on the bike? Could be that the cleaning and tuning of the bike "revealed" a problem. Consider changing the emultion tubes if you have a high milage bike. Emultion tubes are also known as needle jets.

If you know what needles are in a carb, then this is what the needle slides up and down, metal against metal, moving with the intake resonance pluses, and last but least, gravity. If the tubes are worn, even in the slightest, it could be part of the problem.

Armed with this little bit of knowledge, quiz your mechanic.
