Hi guys, Hope you are all well. I've noticed that the steering squeaks when moved side to side. (audible only with engine off...lol) The noise appears to be coming from the top bearing area. The steering is smooth and does not feel like it is binding, or notchy. It is worth noting that the headstem bearings were replaced around october last year, with the tapered style bearings. What should I be checking, will this require head stem dissassembly? because that would suck Have a fantastic day.
Noisy bearings are never good. First check that it is not the wiring loom squeaking before taking any drastic measures.
When I bought my bike I thought the head bearings were noisy, but the guy had just had them replaced so it wasn't that. Turns out it was my horn rubbing on the bottom of my top fairing. Like Dave said, check any wiring etc isn't rubbing before you go disassembling anything.
Checked all the wire looms while moving steering left to right.... It was one of them haha! thanks for the common sense!
