Hello all. New owner over in the US. Got a couple questions for the forum.
1- bike has no spark. Followed the flow chart in the service manual and it seems the pickup is bad. Manual states it should be 10 ohm and I have 100. Just want to confirm that this reading is bad.
2- the clutch actuator arm spring is broke. To replace, do I just remove the 6mm bolt and lift out the arm to replace the spring?
3- the gas tank is missing the sender and tank fitting. Since this was 1 year only here the parts are either not available or expensive. Are they more readily available and cost friendly over in Aus or NZ?
4- has anyone fitted a road race type solo seat? Mine only came with the pan and since I will never ride 2 up I figured a solo seat would be cool. Maybe something like a 80’s or 90’s TZ125 or 250?

Depends on which manual you are looking at I guess. The Service manual says different

Pictures would help with the clutch arm but basically yes to your question.

Fuel sender units are rare... you are better to search the Japanese Yahoo sites using companies such as Zenmarket or Buyee.

Solo seats were not a factory item but there are add in panels to make it look like a Solo seat... another member on here has one and I am sure he will pop in a pic for you.
Aftermarket is also possible. Maybe search the FB Groups as well.. there is an active one in the USA.

Andych, thanks for the info. I got the pickup coil info off a download from the USA srx250 restoration page. It was for a 85’ model so I guess they changed. Glad I asked. Guess I need to look for an igniter. If the senders are rare I will probably just cut a plate to blank off the hole, still can get the gasket over here. I’m not looking for the accessory cover for the pass seat area, more like replacing the whole tail unit with something aftermarket (like air-tech and such) as i basically have no seat and the plastic is cracked in multiple places. I attached a pic from the manual on the ignition troubleshooting and a pic of the clutch spring I need. Spring is #24. That spring looks much the same as used on XT and DT trail bikes. Try them if you get stuck.

    Hi to all.
Bit slow to reply , Andy , sorry about that.

Ok , fuel tank sender's unit's are getting very hard to find as Andy has commented.
I was super lucky to score a new one with a bunch of other N,O.S part's from one of my supplier's for my rebuild , but i do have the old one stored away if you get stuck.
The tank fitting you mentioned , do you mean the fuel tank filter ? , they are still available what i've found so far on the web , i think i still have my old one , i'll have to have a look.

As for a solo seat. Yamaha made one to suit , getting a tad hard to find , this is mine.

I've seen picture's of custom made seat's that had the passenger seat raised , so the seat look's like a solo seat. This way , the rear seat can still be used if needed. I should have kept picture's for the future , but i didn't sorry.

If you need help looking for part's , please do ask , this forum is brilliant that way , alway's willing to help , especially if you mention putting the bike back to stock as such.
You'd be amazed what member's have buried in there shed.

Couple more questions after getting some bad news on the engine (stuck rings and leaky exh. valves=30psi). Are the Forseti gasket set a good quality? Since it is apart, I’ve seen posts about swapping in 30x cams. What is the consensus on how much hp they would add with no other changes? Mine are currently 48y.

Forseti gasget set is fine but possibly wont have all the gaskets you need... I cant remember now. You may need to buy the clutch cover gasket seperately but it is available.
The use of the 30X cams is probably subjective... in the other SRX thread there is plenty of information and I did respond there regarding your measurement etc.
These angines are never going to be high horsepower single cylinder monsters..a good reco job (check that the bore is within tolerance) and sorting out the valves should bring it back to close to factory specs.

Thanks for the reply Andych. I’m just doing a top end, so as long as those gaskets are there (which it looks like they are) I’m good. I think since it’s apart, I can’t see why the 30x cams won’t help it. Since my 48y inlet lobes measure at 34.26mm (from some info I read this # matches closer to the 2nv cams, but it looks like the casting # is 48y) and it looks like the 30x cams I have a measurement from are 36.25mm, it’s got to help it somewhat. Best I can gather the XT had 5 more hp. I also plan to custom make a new exhaust with 32mm head pipes into a collector, then 45mm after the collector into NOS 50mm Kerker K series slip on.

This forum (hardly anyone goes there now) give the specs on the various cams... you can check the lift vs base circle reasonably close with your verniers.

Dont expect too much from just a camshaft change... you will need to find a way of getting more advance at the top end to get any real benefit and if you do that and the exhaust you will certainly need to alter cary settings... not that easy on these little beasts.

So, got the refreshed motor fired up. Since everything on this bike is new to me, I checked the charging system and I’m getting over 17, close to 18 volts. Got a bad regulator. Has anyone had a positive experience with the Chinese eBay ones? Better to try a OEM used one?

For me , i'd usually like to use an O.E one , bolt's up and wires in as it should.
I'm alway's a bit cautious using the cheaper regulator's , the last thing i'd want to destroy / boil dry is my battery , mine wasn't cheap.
Did find some aftermarket unit's while snooping on the web.
Noticed the cooling fin's on the Chinese branded stuff wasn't as big as the O.E part.
