Hey folks. Was recently given a 1993 kawazaki zxr250. It hasn't been started since 2008. Upon acquiring the bike i have cleaned the carbis, pored a small amount of oil down the cylinder head to get a bit of lubricant in the top end. Hooked it up for a jump start and given it a wind. It has fired and started on occasions but wont run. Been trouble shooting and my thoughts are the plugs fouling up with the oil in the top end but i have pulled and cleaned the plugs about 10 times now. I have tried aero start as well... Is there a way to clean the oil out of the cylinder head without taking the engine apart? Does anyone have a diagram of the vacuum system because i have a few hose that don't have homes and are attached to this little dooby whatsit... (Picture attached) Any info would be greatly appreciated... Sorry if my ramblings make no sense i am about 6 beers down...
Looks like the dooby whatsit's might be pollution yubes & could be connected to the airbox. any open holes in the airbox ? To get the head clear you could tip a little fuel down the carbies as you crank it a few times, check your getting spark too, you may have killed the plugs maybe. You might have to remove the tank & set up a temporary fuel bottle to feed the carbies while you get it going
The bottom tube goes into the top of the air box. The tube on the right is the carb vent. It should run to a tee near the top of the carbs. The top one is just open. Mine had a bolt cable tied in there when I got it but it should be open to air. The carb vent on the right will cause grief if it gets fuel in it. It can happen if you tip the carbs upside down with it connected
Good stuff wizard, could the plugs now be dead from soo much cranking and oil fouling? Would new ones help?
When my bike would only start with the choke cranked open. It was all carbs. Just make sure they are spot on. Have noticed with the zxr any small amount of fuel restriction has a tremendous effect on starting, idling and reving.
