So I rolled up to home & looked down at the Trip meter on the CBR. 268. And it hasnt hit RESERVE yet! 227 I looked in the tank with a torch to see it lapping the mid way of the main tank pickup point.

Unbelievable. At 268 on the FZR I would have burnt through reserve & been standing on the highway waiting for RACQ 10ks ago.

Last week I went to 271 before refilling. And was on reserve. I turned the tap prematurely.

What I am astounded at is the fact it wasnt always like this.

When I first put it on the road, flooding carbs would cause it die at the lights when hot, Idle high when cold, so I did what every bogan does & turned to the mighty hammer.

While looking for the cooling issue a couple of weeks back, I saw the hammer sitting there & remembered back to when I was trying to get the FZR up & running & a Mate tapped the float bowls with a hammer. So I did the same in the hopes it would fix it up. 2 Medium to solid taps on each bowl resulted in alot smoother running (knocked the crap out Im guessing). And back to the CBR reliability they are known for.

Until then tippy-topping the tank would get me to 206 before running out on main 190 if I just "filled" it. Another 35kms on reserve had it just sucking enough fuel to make it to the local servo from work. 241 on its best day. Which compared to my experience on the FZR 190-200 for the switch with a further 40 on reserve seemed logical.

But then I gave it some persuasive adjustment, & I tippy-topped it, & got 271. With a good amount until proper empty from looking in the tank. I thought I had maybe not reset the trip meter correctly & was sitting on 100.0 instead of 000.0. But now its happened again...... Tippy topped, made sure it was 000.0 & now at 268.

All the same to & from commutes with same amount of traffic. Probably heavier since the 8 taps to the bowls.

And I am starting to ride the bike a little harder.

    Too go to be true?

Was the flooding chewing fuel? (as we know even when FZRs are running close to right, they like to flood) so it was chewing the fuel.

I'm simply blown away by the mileage.

Whats everyone else getting on their 250's?

I get about 320 a tank on the CBF. Was the same with the last one too.

Can't give you accurate figures for any others as that's the only one on the road right now!

That's great mileage! My 3LN3 (with 3LN1 carbs) only had that sort of economy (25KM/L or 4L/100KM) after doing the needles and tubes along with setting the pilot mixtures, I could get 250K's on the main tap no worries.

@Grasshopper 's 3LN3 was shocking. 70KM's and it would hit reserve. Chewed as much fuel as a 5 litre v8 in town and liked to spit flames out the exhaust.

Yeah mine has had the full Keyster carby kit's fitted, carby's synced with my home made 4 tube manometer, and the mixture screw's adjusted to get the exhaust temp's all reading close to each other using the digital laser/non contact thermometer
I think i can still get better that km/litre above too.
I was getting 220-250km's out of a tank before the kit's were fitted

There is this old thread from here too FZR fuel consumption query
