Hey guys recently my mate purchased a Suzuki Across but there were some minor issues with it. Carburettors are fluttering at the lower mid range, i've been riding carbie bikes for a while so i know the issue (they just need a good clean and balance) Thing is i have never worked on a Suzuki Across mainly on MC22 and carbie dirt bikes. Been scouring these forums to find a carb manual in particular with diagrams and what not so I know i don't have to take of certain fairings/parts etc that is not necessary. Though I cant seem to find what i am looking for exactly there must be something out there that i can't see. Also i'll assume these kind of threads happen daily from previous experience with other bike forums.. so i apologise in advance. Hope you guys have a great day !!
Here is a diagram of the carbs, hope this helps, on the Across pay attention to part number 2 of the list, these do wear as the slides fall off. To access the carbs, I would remove the seat, undo the storage compartment at the front (there are also bolts inside the storage compartment the under the carpet) once the compartment pivots back, and you have access to the top of the carbs, you can then pull the air box out and have full access to the carbs. I find it easier to refit the air box to the carbs, then refit to the engine. Cheers Chris
Thanks Kiffsta! On the MC22 there are small screws that allow you to take of the carbie boots, would this be similar to the across. Would i need to take of the side fairings? Or would the carbs come off after the compartment and air box is taken off with a bit of force I just plan to take the carbs of take out the diaphragm and jets and other loose bits then flush with carbie cleaner and then clean the jets in a ultra sonic cleaner then fit it back on. I also read that the jets have a few clicks to adjust the positioning Would i then need a manometer to balance them out?
Yea Id say your post has slipped the radar .... theres alot of guys here with an Across or have had one . But carbys are carbys so wat u have planned sounds fine. The needle jet and jet needle has clip positions that affect mid throttle. But stock setting is wat to aim for. Across manual is here http://111.67.23.193/~fiftyccc/index.php?resources/categories/gsx250f-across.44/ Compressed air should be used on all jets and openings in the carb body New o ring/seals can only be a good thing , and maybe new float needles. Im sure the Across experts will jump in with the finer points
You don't need to remove the panels, but I find it easier to remove the left hand side panel when reassembling. First job, undo the top box so you can see the carbs, then undo the 2x 10mm screws holding the airbox to the frame , once they are off, look under the air box next to the carbs, there is a screw accessible on each side that secures the carbs to the airbox, once they are loose you can remove the airbox. Locate the idle adjuster and push it through the panel so its hanging inside the frame. Between the engine and carbs, you will see 4 screws who hold the carbs to the carb holder, undo them. Also use a 10 to 12mm to move the choke cable from the carbs ( tape up the plungers on the choke cable so it doesn't get lost), now that done, you can start moving the carbs up and down until they come loose , remove the throttle cable and you are good to go. My 2c, when reassembling, make sure you fit the air box to the carbs first then fit to the bike, I use some WD40 on the slide holder so the carbs will slide in easier. Cheers Chris
Was also going to make a home made manometer with bottles and tubes was curious where i would find the ports to plug that into
