hey peoples just a question out of curiosity,
when i was looking for a bike i was looking at the FZR250, cause it looks way hotter than any other (learner legal) 250.

The very first FZR i test rode was a 3LN (pink and white colour - very nice looking but i just couldn't see myself on it, white just isn't my colour. )
anyway the tacho on it read up to about 18 or 19 000rpm, with the redline being at 16000 rpm.

The bike i ended up buying was a 3LN (white, red and black) and the tacho reads to 20 500rpm, with the redline being at 18 000rpm.

just wondering if any body knows why the two bikes would have had two different tacho readings.

what do your bikes redline at?

I could be wrong..but my guess is the higher revving is the FZR 250 R. I know they readline around the 18,500 mark. The normal FZR 250, which is what I have redlines at like 17,500 revs.

As said - you likely have the fzr 250 r. They use the same engine from my understanding (the 1hx), but tuned differently to have a broader power band than the normal fzr (though I think peak power is actually the same). On a side note - the yamaha zeal also uses the same engine but only revs to 14 000 or something - again it was tuned differently for a different purpose.

ok, thanks guys,

that prob explains why my bike is stickered as an R2 (i presumed all FZR's were the same (3LN anyway) just some had different sticker kits than others.

mate i might wait until i know your bike before i pull you over, but i quite often pull bikers over, just for a chat . i've never had to give a bike rider a ticket (sports bike riders, got plenty of bikies for being pissed and riding (one question - WHY?))
most bikers are so cool to talk to, especially when they realise your into bikes as well. .

but you never know, one day i might pull you over for doing a 200 m wheelie up the road, just so i can say, "whoa, that was cool dude!!"

yeah mate i always ride my bike to work (weather permitting), heaps quicker/cheaper.
