I recently spent some time in Tamworth and had the chance to visit the local Motorcycle Museum (not Murdo's collection). Not a lot of 2fiftycc bikes, but still a really good collection with some mint looking bikes. I was in Tamworth to attend the drags at Gunnedah Airstrip (1/8 mile racing). I was super impressed with the professionalism shown by the organisers, the Tamworth Drag Racing Association (https://www.facebook.com/Tamworth-Drag-Racing-Association-437928722924683/). I didn't take too many pics of the bikes that were in attendance (9 in total). Needless to say there were no 2fiftycc bikes in the field. This is something we will attempt to change at the next meeting which I believe is in March 2017. The following pics are from the Museum and a couple from the drags. The only bikes I was interested in were a Z650 and a CB750 which are both part of the Nostalgia Drag Bike Racers group which is pre-1985 bikes (https://www.facebook.com/Nostalgia-Drag-Bike-Racers-495240650559345/photos/) Enjoy
Was never aware of the museum at Tamworth , i must get out from under my rock. Thanks Frankster for the excellent pictures , there are some gorgeous bikes in that museum.
Hi Greyimport. Thanks for the link. But there is one main bike missing in the museum, where is the SRX 250 ?.Don't tell me they haven't got one !.
Just don't stay at the Powerhouse Hotel... way too expensive... I will be just across the way Monday and Tuesday but no time to visit the Museum I am afraid... should be calling through Glen Innes around midday Wednesday @2valve
OK buddy. Thanks for the update. All clear this way so far. Give us a quick call if possible please. Will roll the red carpet out for the V.I.P .
Mr Yamaha " The tech specialist "will be visiting the area. Have notified the local news paper and TV station is on standby to welcome the special guest .
I am pretty sure one of those gentlemen lives in Tamworth... anything to do with me and you will be sadly disappointed.... lol Make sure that SRX is polished up
Good photos Frankster (pity that old fat bloke in the blue jumper got in some of them). 2valve, will have a look in the National museum at Nabiac for SRX's when I go next week.
Hi Murdo. Thanks buddy please do.Have been there a few times and never remember seeing one , but has been many years since iv'e been there.
I think the old farts add to the character of the place! Since we've wondered a bit off topic, I built an SRX250 for my wife some years back. They're a great little bike and so after familiarising myself with them, I decided to get one back to original condition so the good wife and I could go riding on similar bikes (as Donald Trump would say "it's a beautiful thing!"). After much chasing around and hunting for different bits, I managed to put together the following bike, which was as original as I could get it (the rear pegs aren't in these pics). Unfortunately, I needed some money, so I put it up for sale and a young man immediately bought it without even seeing it in the flesh. It's somewhere in Richmond (Melbourne) in his converted warehouse as a static display (he didn't have a bike licence). Sadly, we moved on from the SRX250 many years ago, but I occasionally key them into a search box to see what's out there. I'm looking forward to seeing how some of the builds on here turn out.
Lovely little bike Frankster.. there are not many left now and getting hard to source bits for them... and it isn't cheap to bring stuff in from Japan through Jauce... the freight and add ons can make items 3 to 4 times the original buy price..if mine turns out half as nice as I see it in my head I will be happy...
