first of all thank u for dedicating a site to the fzr250, i looked all over the net and couldnt find anything about the little beast. I only found out abouth this site thanx to a letter in the australian motorcyle trader this month from tanya!! well im buying a fzr250 and have some questions. how do i no which model it is, it says genesis on the back under the back seat it has twin lights at the front and is single front disc brake, it is 1988 model. thanx
single disc means it is a 2kr model (unless it was modified, but that is unlikely). Next question - there are some 2kr's with an exup valve, some without. When you turn on the bike (not starting) do you hear one sound (fuel pump - ticks), or two sounds (fuel pump ticking, and a whirring noise). You will have to listen relatively closely for the whirring. If there is a whirring noise you likely have an exup. If not, then it is one less thing to worry about. A second check on the exup is to look under the side stand - are there two cables attaching to something on the exhaust? (this something would be the actual exup valve). Congrats on the purchase !! It is a great little bike. And thank-you to Tanya for mentioning this site in her letter! I will have to pick up the issue (which month - september??).
Yes they do. I saw one (when I bought mine) that was an 88 model with exup. It was identical to mine (an 89), had 1000 k's less than and was the same price but I selected mine because I liked the paint job more (both were complianced in '96 too). However given that tanya has pointed out a 91 2kr has now made me come to the conclusion essentially that the fzr models etc. is just screwy... WHile some general rules are true, there will always be an exception...
