the Ducati Hypermotard. these seem to be pretty popular, and i don't get it surely people don't actually take these offroad, and given a budget of upwards of 15 grand to buy a bike, what is it that motivates people to choose this? i'm sure they're very nice bikes, but i personally dont understand why you wouldn't just get a proper naked bike, or a proper dirtbike, instead of spending twice as much to be vaguely in between one of you guys must know. please, help me
the Harley Davidson these seem to be pretty popular, and i don't get it surely people don't actually take these around corners , and given a budget of upwards of 15 grand to buy a bike, what is it that motivates people to choose this? i'm sure they're very nice bikes, but i personally dont understand why you wouldn't just get a proper bike, or a real bike, instead of spending twice as much to be a prat one of you guys must know. please, help me
the thing is my sewing machine was just about the cheapest thing on the planet, if you could afford a hypermotard you could buy just about any bike you wanted
I think the Harley thing is a lifestyle or something like that, and a lot of the odd bikes have to do with fashion, so long as they are on two wheels it is all ok. I cannot understand most other human beings on this planet, at least these guys share a love of riding a bike.
The Hypermotard is just a fashion thing. Harleys, why????? For me on long trips, I ride a Honda Dominator 650 for its long travel suspension and light weight. I can no longer pick up a big heavy bike if it fell over (had to embaressingly ask for help when my ST1100 fell in the driveway) and my body cannot put up with too much bouncing on the crap roads. Also the riding position helps. I have done some mods to make it better on the road (road tyres, windscreen, etc) and more suitable for travelling. It will go down a dirt road, but there is no way I would take it into the bush. Photo from my last trip to the Honda ST owners rally (the paniers on the trailer are from my burnt ST).
Both Harley and Ducati are a brand. Whenever you tell people Ducati they go ooo-ahhh... Even though when it comes to making actual race bikes, Honda or Yamaha reign supreme. Harley is just riding the popularity wave as well. They also get a lot of American support because they're pretty much the only "big" American motorcycle company.
Motard street bikes are not meant to take off road. I call them city bikes. You get a sporty bike but you are higher off the ground which helps your visibility and people seeing you. Wider handle bars and a normal seating position give better control around town than clip-on handlebars. The first one was the TDR250.
I'm really tempted by the Duke 690... I'm planning a test ride soon. Vibration may be an issue for longer rides but for something to throw around town I'm uhh... seriously considering it... single cylinder etc but everything I hear these bikes are mega fun.
