The good wife and I recently celebrated another wonderful year of married bliss by spending a weekend in Bothwell, Tasmania. Bothwell is an old town originally settled by Scottish folk (my wife's heritage) and as such has many things Scottish. This includes Highland Cattle and Australia's oldest Golf Course (Ratho Farm). We had lunch at the local pub called The Castle Hotel. The owner is a bit of a bike nut, so there was plenty of interesting bike memorabilia and articles/books to keep you occupied. The Owner is getting on a bit (aren't we all?) and so he has cut down his bikes collection to just a MV Augusta and a Moto Guzzi. The Hotel isn't worth going out of your way to go to, but as it's part of the road system around the lake district in the central highlands, you may want to stop there for a meal and/or comfort break. There are plenty of bike events and meetings that use the Hotel as there meeting point. The pub was built in 1829, so she's an old girl to be sure.
I love the way that old pub still has its original character. So many old pubs have lost their old charm. A good example is the Club Hotel in Ferntree Gully (cnr Burwood Hwy & Ferntree Gully Rd).
